I subscribe to the philosophy "It's your trailer, use it any way you want".
Whether or not someone uses their appliances has no effect whatever on my life.

Absorption Refers

That having been said, is there any reason why I should ever turn it on? A friend of mine suggested it might be a good idea, but he didn't really have a reason why. Another friend suggested it's not good for the refrigerator. I don't see anything wrong with using it as a cupboard, and welcome your comments.

Absorption refers not operated will not damage the units. Some times a new coach will not sell for 3 to 5 years (ugly unit) and you turn it on and it works.

Fridge: Use or Storage
We have a 2012 FR Surveyor that we bought in 2016. On a upper 80 degree day, the fridge wouldn't go under 40 degrees. They replaced the cooling unit and its still the same! We now use it for air tight storage of items. We're stationary so we have a 18cf fridge on our porch. Unless its a normal fridge with a fan, FORGET IT!

Depends on the fridge. My double door Norcold uses a 30 lb tank of propane in a week.
I contacted Norcold about it and they said it was normal.
I’m hopefully changing it out for a residential fridge in the next couple of months.

My B.I.L. stays away from some upgrades because it is just one more thing to break

Not only do I use everything in the camper, but I feel compelled to, I paid for it! The Suburban gas oven particularly. Last weekend it was personal pizzas on Boboli crusts, so convenient. Then I baked some cookies for dessert while it was still hot.

To each their own. It is yours, you paid for it. Use it as you wish. We have RV friends with a 6 year old fiver they bought new. They have never put water in the fresh water tank, and they RV a lot. Their decision. Their RV.

Isn't there some sort of "protectant" chemical added to the ammonia based refrigerant? If there IS, then that "protectant" would need to be circulated to be able to do its' job.
On my first RV (Casita Travel Trailer) and my current RV (Dynamax Super-C) I use EVERYTHING.

You may have the same problem I had with the fridge in my 2011 Georgetown. There was nothing wrong with the fridge but, when it was installed, FR left an inch of free space on each side and a larger hollow space above it. When the sun shined on that side of the rig, the temperature in this dead space rose to well over 130F. The fridge was effectively operating inside an oven and couldn't cool properly. The solution was to fill the dead air spaces with fiberglass insulation. The fridge has worked perfectly since that was done.
I also suspect that your porch fridge is larger and, since it runs on AC, works better.

I'm guessing he got the information he was looking for. Still, it would have been nice to acknowledge that and some of the questions that have been asked of them.

There was only one question asked by one member that I can see.

The absorption refer is coated internally ( sodium chromate )when first tested at the factory. The only thing needed after setting for years would be cleaning the burner.

Not even close to the same thing..

100% correct Sir
Worst chance of injury in a non-used system to me is the infestation of critters/insects.
