Oven cooktop push button igniter

No spark, battery under the push button checks good. Lifted range top to see if wires were connected , 1 wire to each burner good. There is an orange wire that goes down into or behind the oven area. Anyone know why the different color ? New, hasn't worked from day 1.

I would replace the battery just to be safe. If still nothing try moving one of the spark probes closer to the burner. If too far away, it can not draw a spark.

Thanks, I'll give it a try but shouldn't I be able to see a spark.

If the interior is dark you should see a small spark. If the probe is too far from the metal burner, it may not spark.

Yes you should see a spark. I would say 1/8 inch would be a good gap and probably as close as you want it. If no spark at 1/8 inch then there is another issue.

Could it be that your oven just doesn’t have a spark? Mine didn’t- I had to hold the knob and use a lighter.

Stove top had one; oven just didn’t.

If it is the oven you are talking about then I am sure you have to light the pilot light - it does not have an igniter. The stovetop should light with the igniter.

I pulled out the igniter button again today. It worked when held in hand. I must have moved something. Found a sloppy contact on back right sparker.

The reason why the oven does not have an igniter is that it cycles on and off to maintain the temperature you set. It has to re-ignite each time it cycles on.

Common mistake people often make regarding their oven. The spark ignitor is only for the stove top. The oven needs to be lit from the pilot light and the pilot must be lit by hand.

Yep. Mine worked for about the first couple of times on the stove top and quit. I have talked to a lot of people about ignitors on everything from their trailers to BBQ grills doing the same thing. You would think that they would be a little more dependable by now. Anyway, I had to get the dealership to look at our microwave and fireplace while under warranty, so I mentioned it to him and now it works great every time.
