Its been my experience that surge protectors and autotransformers protect you from problems, not cause them (normally).

They may be inconvenient when they won't tell you why they won't let you connect to a problematic campground pedestal or disconnect you "for no reason" when a momentary brownout (voltage drop) goes below its disconnect voltage; then ramps back up to normal before you get a chance to see the error code.

Yes, in fact in many of the campgrounds that i stayed in overt the years, i would occasionally have to reset the circuit breaker due to exceeding 30amps. But the background i last used the TT the circuit breaker on the shore power pedestal kept on popping while the onboard circuit breakers never did. They replaced it three times before i gave up and just went out and reset it when needed. Which was very often during the 8 months we lived there until our new house construction was completed. We sold the TT last August and bought our 2011 GT MH. Fixing to do or next trip-- Grand Canyon in Sept.

GFCI's can be bad almost out of the box. How do I know? I've seen it twice on my new house.
The electrician came out, replaced them and all was fine and has been for a few years now. The electrician said it's rare but happens with greater frequency now than years past.

Out of the box is virtually impossible to determine until you install it and all your outlets aren't working and the gfci wont reset its bad!!! If it works for a while and trips and won't reset, it's time to replace-- its bad!!!

Had a similar situation when we started the trip we are currently on, OP should check ALL connections from the house plug out to the trailer. I had a burned connection between my SP and the power cord to the trailer. Question for OP, what are you powering with this micky mouse set up? Call a qualified electrician and have a dedicated 50 amp circuit run to the outside of the garage, you'll find it's much safer and then you can run anything in the trailer you want without having to worry about overloading the circuit.

×2 Iwas wondering about why he was using an extension cord and trying to get a 50amp rv down to 30 amp adapter then into the extension cord! That doesn't make sense to me. But what do I know? Back when i owned a TT with 30 amp system, i had to stay in a cg with only 50 amp service so, i bought a 30 to 50amp adapter. No problem.

Hundreds of us use a 50a to 30a to 15/20a set-up to operate our refrigerators on electricity and charge our batteries while we're loading our trailers for a trip.

Not many run their air conditioners with that much (100 feet) 20 amp extension cord though.

Your GFCI's and your surge protector on the house side are not playing well together.
Take the surge protector off and it will probably work just fine.
GFCI connected to another GFCI will trip one of them out.
Won't go into all the electrical stuff as to why, but I bet if you take the house surge protector out of the loop, you will be ok.

Maybe I was reading the wrong thread. I didn't see any mention here of an attempt to run an A/C unit - just comments about dead GFCI outlets. I didn't see any mention of the length of the extension cord 100' or some other length. I use a 48.6' 12ga extension cord plugged into a GFCI protected outlet in my garage and run the aforementioned refrigerator and battery charger without issue. No, I don't attempt to run an A/C unit... can't tell the OP did, either. I was responding to the comments that it was peculiar to plug a 50a trailer into a house circuit.

I would question the surge protector first.

FYI: the 30 amp to 50 amp adapter takes the 30 amp circuit and splits it to BOTH legs of a 50 amp circuit. Instead of having a 50 amp service serving two separate 50 amp circuits you have a 30 amp service split to cover both. Then you stepped down to a 20-25 amp house current plug.

I would run power by extension cords to the camper for needed power to basic appliances, and do a serious evaluation of the situation. If you are not sure of your understanding of electricity, pay someone to keep you & family safe and sound.
