PSA Air Conditioner fans explode check yours when you can.

From what I see in the forums this is an ongoing problem with roof AC units. My brother called me saying 2 of his 3 AC units quit working. COLEMAN model 47073-879. He had a mobile tech come out and told him that he needed 2 new AC because the fan blades exploded bending the condesor fins and breaking the motor mounts.

After some research I found you can replace the blade and mount and use a special tool to straighten the fins. So he's having that done not just on the 2 that failed but also the third unit. His motorhome a 2015 Winnebago Grand Tour is not that old but the plastic they use to make the fan blades and mounts degrade over time which makes them brittle.

If you do a search you'll see several post about this problem. So I guess we all need to add this to our PM schedule, to inspect the fan blades and mounts.

What make and model AC do you have. A PSA needs data.

Thanks. I recently saw one that came apart on a Carrier unit but I believe it was from 2005 camper, so it is pretty old. Also, the fan wheel is no longer available.

My brother got the bill for replacing all 3 fan blades and the mounts, it came to $1350. So not a cheap fix. And unfortunately it wasn't something he could do himself right now do to health complications.

That "special tool" is called a "fin comb." $10.88 on eBay,

We had one break apart, It was due to a Mud Dauber nest built on the blades. Can't blame the manufacturer for that,

He said he can't believe how much quieter they are now. They must have been on the verge of breaking and really out of balance.
