radio project assistance please

I did a search on the forum but did not find a thread with tips or instructions on how to replace the Genesis original radio in our 2015 Windjammer with a new IVR66. I received a replacement radio from Forest River (thank you Brian!) and it includes the wiring harness and new cables to run from the TV to the IVR.

Has anyone made this switch? Any tips or instructions? So far I know how to pull the old unit out and to turn off the power so avoid any shocking experiences - ha!

Thanks for any advice. This will be our holiday project.

Does the wiring harness have any markings, either on the label or in the manual? If so, just connect like wires and fire it up.

No labels or tags in the new harness but the old wires are tagged. The only manual with the new unit is how to operate it. So I will hope the color wires match and see what happens. Thanks for the reply.

I found the full manual online as a PDF:

Wiring diagram on p. 21.

A small metal pin and a multimeter to determine the power wires is a good start. Once power has been determined, your next best is to use a known pair of speaker outputs from the new radio to label your speakers so you can wire them properly.

If your old stereo is working, then you can determine and label speaker outputs by cutting and reattaching and labeling the wires.

I had to do this several years ago when I replaced my stereo. It was not hard just time consuming but well worth it.

Good luck!

If you're not comfortable going wire to wire, try this:

It will save a lot of time and guess work.

I need an opinion on what is going on with my install of the Irv 66 radio. We have the power and wiring harnesses hooked up. Good sound from tv through trailer speakers and when playing a cd so I think we are close on the installation. The unit's display and lights power on but nothing on display screen just blank blue. This makes it impossible to see what input you are using, track number on cd or play a DVD. Unit won't respond to remote control either. I did check battery, etc on remote.
So is this a problem with the installation? I think if the into has power the display should work. Maybe a defective radio? I welcome suggestions! Thanks!

The only thing I can think of is + and - could reversed. I would double check wires before switching them.

Thanks, I know we matched the harness red to red and black to black, but I will check to be sure the harness is inserted correctly.

As I found out working on our TT, red doesn't necessarily mean +, some items in our unit were wired backwards.

First I am sorry for the delayed Post in reply. I wanted to thank everyone for their advice on Switching out our radio. Your suggestion of checking the power led me to reviewing the wiring again. I found a black plug that needed to go into the back of the irv66. One quick switch and everything is working great now. Thanks again for all the good advice
