If you're talking about the clearance lights, then NO, they don't activate when in reverse. They only come on when your tow vehicle's lights are on.
Why don't you forget the reverse feature and just have it as an observation camera. So it's on all the time and you can see behind you while traveling.
I have a 2016 TracerAir and it was not pre-wired for a camera. So I took out the middle clearance light and am mounting my observation camera in its place, using the wires there for power.
I've already tested it and just have to mount it.
Most that have a rear camera on their trailer, use it as an observation camera, not only for backing up.
