Refrigerator whooshes but will not light!

What type of frig do you have? Are you at high altitude? We had a Norcold in our MH that would not work on gas at over 5000 ft. Per Norcold website, this is common on newer models.

Mine does this the first time after sitting with LP off at the tanks.
I always light the stove and the water heater to get things going then
try the fridge. It might "whoosh" a dozen times but will eventually catch
and then it's fine.

Did yours fault out? Turn it off and back on and try again.

I called Nocold and we have a refrigerator that does not work over 5000 ft. This was not disclosed to us by the dealer. What good is a self contained toy-hauler that will not keep food cold when not plugged in? Does anyone have any suggestions for us? Could the dealer be required to replace the refrigerator with a different brand that works above 5000 ft?

Thats good infor for us highlander. The 2013 dometic that I have works fine all the way to at least 9200ft.

I would guess you don't have a gripe unless it was specifically discussed before and during the time of purchase about camping above 5,000'.

I don't really know, but you might want to check on getting a different gas valve. Maybe a dometic will work plus you would
need to change the orifice, It's worth a try.

Call Norcold and mention you moved to Denver, now what do I do! Serioously, how do RV dealers in Denver, as an example, sell Norcold.

I increased my spark gap to about 3/16" and refrigerator lights and runs on propane now. We are at 4700'. Tomorrow we will be going over a 12,000' pass. I will see if it stays lit.

I don't understand this, I have a Norcold, went through Denver 2 years ago. I never had a problem with mine at all. It was on propane as I was driving. It never went out that I know of. I have an accustat in both freezer and refer. It displays the temp and it stayed the same. The alarm would have went off if it stopped cooling because the gas went out and the temp went up inside........

We went over the 12,000 ft. pass and while I didn't get out at the top and check it, it was still going when we got to a lower altitude. I guess it's possible it could have gone out and re-lit itself. Maybe it was the "good luck", from Turbo that did the trick.

He explaned it well, But mine is set @ 11.0 inches in a water colume. You can always do as I stated in the #10 post change the valve if dometic is different which I doubt, but you would need to change the orifice as he stated. All orifices that I know of are the same size except for the whole that shoots out the gas. When in HVAC business we use to change natural gas FAU to propane, All orifices had to be changed plus the spring in the gas valve. Just get a new orifice from Dometic if that one works above that altitude and you are done with the problem.Believe it or not Albuquerque NM is higher then Denver and never had a problem there either.They must have changed something if you guys are having this problem with a model change. And as Gonbonz say's his works at over 9000 ft. Just order one for the model that is in his unit........
