Remote fridge operation.

I would like to be able to turn my fridge (elect.) on from home hours before we leave to go to our seasonal site. My question is has anyone used those "smart outlets" avail. from various sources and would it work to do this?

I'm intrested to see responses. I was not aware of a "smart outlet"?

If it a seasonal spot why not leave the fridge on with condiments and such in it? Why turn off all the time? Air conditioning yes for sure. But if the camper is plugged into power why turn fridge off?

We did that last yr. & got a wopper of an elect. bill. So we run fridge & water heater on gas. I just want to get it chilled down until we get there to switch it over.

I think what will happen is the fridge would go into lockout.
If it is set to auto (AC/Gas) and there is no AC present it will switch to propane mode. It will try and light (with propane) 3 times then lockout. At that point it will not operate in AC mode or Propane mode until it is manually reset (turned off then back on).

As far as I know, smart outlets need a wi-fi connection to operate remotely, as in via the internet. If you have reliable wi-fi at this seasonal spot it should be possible but may be expensive. I've seen the Nest systems at Home Depot but surely you can Google smart outlets to learn more.
