Replace Broken Dometic Thermostat and Idiot Friend

Issue: I need to replace a broken Dometic Thermostat like the one in the picture (if I get the picture to upload). I got one delivered from Amazon, but didn't notice when I ordered it that it came with a control box. Amazon High Performance Control Kit Do I need to replace the control box with the thermostat, or can I just replace the thermostat? Or better yet, can I get by with a cheaper single zone thermostat like
HTML Code:
this
, or does it need to be an exact match? I'm confused as most Dometic thermostats I find online come in a kit with the control box thingy.

Oh, and the Idiot friend? Here's the story. We've only had our new-to-us 2011 Wildwood 26TBSS out twice. For the second trip out, the wifey had to work the weekend and told me to go ahead and go. My buddy got permission from his wife to go with me, so the two of us were out on a bachelor weekend. It was hot as hell and we had the A/C blowing the whole weekend.

Well one night, idiot friend got too cold and tried to adjust the temp in the dark. He sees the LCD digital display and presses it, thinking that it will change the temp setting. My guess is that it wasn't working for him so he pressed harder and harder, until he broke the LCD display off of the thermostat board. In the end, the thermostat still work, but without the display, there's no way to tell if you are in AC or heat mode and what temp is set.

You might want to keep this friend at home for the safety of your RV.

Return the “kit” and you can replace just the thermostat.

If you want that exact one, I have an extra one send me a message and we will figure something out. There is a newer one that is back lit when you press the buttons.
Dometic 3316250.012 Rv Thermostats(T-Stat,Ct Std-Blk-Boxed) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B7J6FK9..._umMbDbD43EEC2

Buy the new one. I bought the used ones and the screens came in badly scratched twice.

Another thing- put this hard start kit on your ac unit

Supco SPP6 Hard Start Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DZUAPQG..._6qMbDbCY3D2ZN

It will make it easier for the compressor to kick on.

Now this is what I hoped to hear! The parts guy at Camping World was trying to convince me that it had to be an exact match. He even asked what color mine was!

Maybe that is why his wife gave him "permission to go", gets him out and he doesn't break her stuff?

I had a great experience with Dometic, the thermostat on my 2018 LaCrosse was not working and the ones on Amazon were not an exact match so I called Dometic customer service to verify it would work, the lady took all my info and sent me the exact same thermostat at no charge, plugged it in and have not had any more problems. I was very impressed with their customer service in this day and age where it's almost impossible to get help with anything

Thanks for this. I actually sent an e-mail to Dometic an hour ago asking if a specific thermostat is needed or if I can replace it with any Dometic thermostat. I sent a picture, but didn't tell them my story. Maybe if I did, they'd send me a new one for free whlie they laugh. I don't need a free one, but I would like the comfort of them verifying before I purchase and install.

. A friend just called with the exact thermostat - actually 2 of them. One is in Celsius and wants me to tell him how to change it. Not a math wizard I guess.

Google the model for the manual. I had mine do this and it was a combo of pressing two buttons to change it back to the US units.

I certainly hope this "friend" is paying for the thermostat he broke.

But if he won't, he is not much of a friend, is he. You got off cheap in that case.
