replacement for Concertone M1 (exterior speakers)?

So, I didn't want to cut into my new (to me) hybrid, but I need to replace the aged yellowing Concertone M1s on the exterior of my 2008 Roo 23SS.

The M1s are the bulky pod looking things that allowed FR to surface-mount exterior speakers rather than recessing them.

What are my replacement options?

Do I just need to steel myself for cutting into the side of the camper to recess speakers??

Thanks!

Here's what they look like... I managed to snag an image off of Crutchfield's old product page.

Actually maybe I just need to yank the old ones off and see what size hole is there... looks like the magnet actually extends into the exterior!

I'm interested in what people have to say about the outside speakers. Mine aren't worth a darn inside or outside.

Look in to some Marine type Kicker speakers. Awesome sound, best bang for your buck$.

If you look at the picture closely, you will note the M1 also pointed the speaker down as opposed to straight over your head.

You may want to try removing and painting.
