Screen Casting in RV?

Anyone using a wireless display adapter (miracast)... like the Screenbeam or others.. to mirror movies, etc from your phone or tablet to the television in your RV? What are you using? Are you happy with how it works?

Chrome cast need internet. I use my samsung tv and stream from my samsung phone. Easiest way without needing internet.

Hi,

I set up my smartphone hotspot to get the necessary network, and then use it to Chromecast from my tablet to my TV. Easy and quick...

I use a Chromecast adapter, with my Vizio.
My Samsung doesn't need an adapter.
Use phone as hotspot.
Dish Anywhere app to watch everything from our home DVR.
Use Chromecast for Amazon Prime channels.

We use a usb-c to HDMI adapter. Download movies to Netflix and mirror you phone screen to the tv. Zero data or WiFi required.

I use a Screen Beam mini 2 and stream from my laptop. Download movies from Netflix at home before the trip. Needs no internet.

Hadn't thought about the fact that I just replaced my Jensen TV with a 32" Samsung and have a Samsung phone, hmmm. Have to investigate if I can stream directly from my phone.

It's pretty easy. You just pull down the upper bar, on the phone, and swipe to the second page where you'll see the Smart View icon. Click that and then activate the tv's Mirror Image feature. They should pair up.
You should be able to find a video on the process.

We have a Samsung Galaxy S2 tablet that we screencast to our Roku. The S2 uses about a quarter of the bandwidth that the Roku uses (i.e. Netflix, Amazon Prime apps), and the picture looks great.

It's called Smart View on my S9+ and just Screen Mirroring on my 2013 Samsung TV.

Smart view seems to imply it will work with chromecast? anyone know if there are alternatives for non Samsung tvs.

Any problems with losing the connection? Or the audio getting out of sync? Would you say it's pretty reliable?

I do no issues as long as its a smart tv

Hi,

As to TVs that work with Chromecast, mine is the cheap Jensen that came with the trailer. It has an HDMI port for the Chromecast gizmo to plug into, which I think is the key.

Don't know about the Amazon Firestick and other technologies. But Chromecast needs to be able to talk to your computer through a network (in my case through the phone's hotspot). Whether a campground wifi would suffice for this purpose may be doubtful, since you are constantly moving a fair amount of data to maintain the TV image.

Just use an HDMI cable from phone to TV, or laptop to TV.

I have a Chromecast I don't use, didn't realize I needed a separate wifi signal to cast from the phone (which has it's own data plan).

Maybe I wasn't clear.

I set up the network on my phone. The device that is doing the casting and the Chromecast device itself (connected to the TV by HDMI) talk to that network.

I understand how the chromecast works (now that I have it and tried it). I found using the hdmi cables to be much simpler solution.

No smart TVs in the house/trailer so no casting without a device. And when my data plan at the trailer is my only option, I can't cast with CC from the phone. It needs a separate signal (which I find dumb).

I'm either using HDMI to stream from my laptop to TV or Fire Stick and using my phone as a hot spot if no Campground wifi is available...

If you're going the Fire Stick route, I would suggest you set it up the Fire Stick at home first... The reason for this is if you want to use some of the Fire Stick apps like FOX or NBC, HBO, Showtime etc, you need to set them up and it is somewhat time consuming.. The apps will ask you to select your TV provider (Comcast, Dish, Verizon etc) and you need to key in your user name a password from that provider and you'll be on faster wifi at home.

Lastly, using your phone as a hot spot does chew up your data quickly so make sure you have enough data on your plan... And even if your plan is unlimited, most wireless providers will throttle you after you've used X amount of data and the at throttle speeds, the Fire Stick is useless.
