Shocked!

I got a shock from my ZX75! Its true. We just brought our 2012 Salem 30KQBSS home and were so excited to try it out. The first thing I did was crack a beer try to put on some tunes. When I turned the system on I was shocked by how outragously crappy the quality of the sound system was! The sound is terrible and the interface sucks! The kids wanted to watch a DVD on the bed so we swiveled the TV around and then I spent a half hour trying to get the DVD to play. I was so pleased with our lay out and all the features on this great unit that I assumed the audio/video system was of the same quality. Wrong. I will be writing the manufacturer about this as I am still shocked that they are willing to put their name on the line by offering such a pile electronic garbage. I will be repacing the system with a Jensen and all new speakers as well.

So did you not even try the sound system before you signed the check??
Would you buy a car without a test drive??

I also have to jump in. Our Surround unit is awesome for a camper. We have the Concertone ZX-700(690) and the only issue I had initially was the unit was shipped with PAL as the video type. A trip through the menus using the manual was all it took to fine tune the video and audio for superb sound for a 12VDC multimedia system.

No, I do not work for Concertone; just a happy camper who likes their products. The lion share of camper radio problems (not all; just most) are installation problems. Check grounds and wire connections behind the unit.

I can maybe offer more specific help on where to turn next.

We have the Genesis 3.0 unit in our TT. Other than one minor problem the first time we camped, (the "A" button pushed all the way in!) we've had no issues with this unit. It works and sounds great! I didn't expect it to sound like the Bose unit I have at home; it is more than adequate for our needs. We're not using it to blast people off of their campsites and we're not using it for 3-day movie marathons. It more than "fits the bill" for our needs. Spending more money on a replacement unit would be a waste of money,. We didn't buy the TT for the stereo.

Let's see: A 2012 unit with a 1 year warranty. Self explanatory.

If you bring it in for warranty replacement you might even get the newest Concertone as a replacement!

We too have the Concertone ZX-700. Sound/DVD/etc are great. The only issue is that they wired it up wrong.AU-1 should be Satilite, and AU-2 sould be TV sound. Ours the AV-1 is satilite and AV-2 is TV sound. Just a matter of taking the front off and pulling the unit and redoing the connectors on the back or not. Gotten used to AV-1 for satilite and AV-2 for TV sound probably just leave it alone. Great sound though. HAWKER 74 you might check to see if they miss wired the speakers. Thats happened in the past. They get the pos. and neg. wires reversed on the speakers sometime and that gives lousy sound.

As I said in my first post, I did make an assumption the audio system was adaquate, since every other aspect of the camper was so pleasing. I am not trying to "blast" people out of their campsites as one poster put it, but the four speaker system sounds like your listening to it through a long tin can and the audio player on my iPhone is louder. A little bass would be nice. When you press the "Bass boost" button it boosts the treble and adds another can to the tin can stack. The DVD player took about 15 minutes to load and finally play. I will be seeking warranty for the DVD unit and we will see what happens. I have been reading all the other threads on this unit I am beginning to wonder if there is sub woofer hiding somewhere on our trailer that is not hooked up or something. That could make all the difference.
Thanks for all the great comments and flames!

I have a DVR/dvd player at home that takes more than 60 seconds
to load a DVD. It seems like forever.
Are you sure you're not exaggerating a bit on that 15 minutes to load???

FYI, I found my sub woofer under one of the dining seats. It didn't have
any grill just stuck under the seat in an enclosed area.
I cut a hole in the side (under the table by our feet) and installed
a plain old cold air grille from Home Depot. It helped the bass a little.

Speakers over my bed sound blown but they are mounted in the bottom
of the over head cabinet about 24 inches above our faces when we lay in
bed. If I place my hand on the bottom of the cabinet the rattly blown sound
stops.
I'm sure it's just construction debris and the wires themselves laying loose
in the false bottom of the cabinet.
One day I'll pull out the speakers and stuff the area with fiber fill to stop
the wires dancing and that should help a lot.

You are in warranty. You shouldn't have to trouble shoot bad grounds or
loose wires yet.
Good luck! Welcome to the forum.

I think the key word in the op message was "Shock". Hitching up and returning back to the dealer for a service call is not always so simple. It very well could be a good choice but it can be a real pain too.

I have certain expections with my investment including the sound system. "Life Happens" so once the disappointment factor levels out most people will move onto the next step to get the problem taken care of. From what I read up to this point looks like there were some good feedback provided and the op is trying to figure out the problem.

While I may not be in total agreement about the original post I can see where the op might be coming from. When disappointment follows expections it's not much fun.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the 700 series has the "surround" sound therefore the sub. The 75 (which I have too ) is just a 3 zone system no surround. I have had small issues that are usually fixed by removing the fuse, the system is not the best quality. What drives me nuts if you look at the concertone website the prices are quite expensive too only be a DVD player/radio. I have seen portable blu-ray players with monitors for $300. But I am sure other brands are by cheap as well due to it not being a "large" market has home entertainment.
