Side view backup cameras
Putting a wireless backup camera on my 5er to help when backing into tight spaces. It is difficult to see how close I am when using the right side mirror. Are side view cameras helpful?

Moved thread from the General Tech and Repair section to the Appliances and Electronics sub-forum since the OP's questions are specific to Electronics and not general tech questions.

Side cameras are just that. For assistance in seeing alongside in what be a blind spot in your side view mirrors. They won’t really do anything for depth perception in backing up. Backing up, just like anything else, just takes practice and repeated execution.

smaller trailer. got a three camera system, use one camera 99.9999% of the time.
if i didn’t have the side guys, I wouldn’t miss ‘em (at all). And if your 250 has towing mirrors, you won’t miss em either.
just my .02, hope this helps

My reason for considering the side view is that I have to make a hard turn into my drive using the right side mirror and I loose sight of where I'm at and there is a fence close to where I need to turn. Just don't know if the side view will let me see when I need to make the turn past the fence.

I have side cameras on my 5er. I thought they would be great for those blind side backing scenarios. Problem is mine don't show the tires so it is almost useless for me. Maybe if I took the time to adjust them they would be useful. As it is, I use the rear view camera on the 5er all time and never look at the side views.

I have a camera that can connect to my phone
has a magnetic base that you can mount it just about anywhere ... even free standing on a curb etc
works good .... BUT
no real replacement for get out and look
IF you got a driveway at home that is tight
I put some landscape material down as a pathway on the side you can see easily
then can make my wheels follow the landscaping material ... use material that is no drama if wheels touch it
Stones... buried bricks etc etc

PS... bought back up camera for trailer
keep forgetting to use it when backing up
always using mirrors and Mrs AG on the phone
her only job is to make sure I don't hit anything,
she's not allowed (anymore) to try and give turning directions

I hear that.
If your parking assistant suffers from dyslexia, like mine, their job is watching out for overhead branches or obstacles that might leave a mark. I’ll deal with the rest.
