Space Heater

Can anyone recommend a good space heater to use in a 2007 Salem 31QBSS, furnace is not working. And help would be greatly appreciated.

We just had a Honeywell table top that we'd picked up at Wallymart years ago. Lot of different types and brands out there.

We hardly ever use the gas furnace in our camper. Instead, we use a milkhouse heater and a Holmes Workman Heatblast heater. Been using them for 17+ years and they keep the RV(s) over the years comfortable. Plus cuts back on propane usage (yes...I'm cheap!).

Walmart and Homedepot and Lowes should be stocking up now on electric CUBE heaters... they will run about $25-35 range and are usually about 10-12 inches square. Wife and I had to pick one up in January s number of years ago, when a cold snap hit northern FL, and I did not want to use the propane furnace. Walmart was sold out, Homedepot had a good supply. I use that with a small box fan set on low and aimed toward the ceiling to circulate the warmed air about the inside of the trailer and works quite well.

I have an earlier version of this one, and the wife and I really like it

We very much like the thermostat. The remote is handy (don't have to get out of bed to adjust the temp. It's about $70, but for me it was worth the price.

The question should be "Can you help me learn why my (insert furnace make and model here) furnace not working?"

A picture of your thermostat will help, too. Various furnaces are used in various rv,s and I guarantee you someone on the forum has the same one you do.

We have the same heater and are very happy with it. Lots of heat and a good thermostat. It gets my 200% approval, whatever that is worth.

If you've got an electric hookup available, look for an electric space heater that 1. has a temperature control that will turn the unit off when (and if) it gets warm enough
2. is cool to the touch so that no one gets burned by accidentally touching it.
3. has a two speed heat control. Ours tends to set off alarms in the rig if operated on high heat.
Optional - one that has a 'fan only' option so that you can use it without heat.
Almost all of them have 'tip protection' that shuts them off when they tip over.

We do a lot of dry camping in the spring and fall here in New England so we can't rely on an electrically-powered heat source. In addition, the power consumed by the furnace fan tends to draw-down our battery bank too much for my liking.

Last year we purchased a Mr. Heater Big Buddy. It runs on two refillable 1-gal propane bottles or it can be connected to a 20-lb propane tank. Of course, we crack a window for oxygen and to prevent the moisture from accumulating. I should mention that we do not run it overnight as we bundle up in our sleeping bags if it's really cold.

I must say that even running it on low produces more than enough heat to warm up our Roo (with bunk ends). The only time we put it on high is when we are sitting outside on a cool night and use it to warm-up our feet and legs.

If you don't dry camp or boondock, you're probably better off with an electric heater.

THis post will bring out all of those people that think these types of propane heaters are deadly in enclosed spaces. I wish those same people ice fished in a tiny shack or tent on the ice where everybody uses these heaters to keep warm...

I'm with you... have used my Big Buddy heater now for 8-9 years without dying once. Make sure to use the filter Mr. Heater recommends on the 20# propane hose... ask me why I mentioned this.

All 1500 watt heaters produce the same amount of heat and all run at 100% efficiency. Buy whatever you like.

Apparently nobody ever cooks with propane or natural gas in their RVs or homes, either.

Also, +1 to the oil-filled heater. Quiet, heats very well, etc. This is the one we have - https://www.lowes.com/pd/DeLonghi-15...ter/1000107815

I'll take one of these over a ceramic or other heater with a fan any day.

Correct.
The only difference between the typical space heater and an oil filled is the oil filled takes a bit longer to produce maximum heat but it will continue to give off heat through convection of the heated oil once the element shuts off. So, between heating cycles it is still giving off heat where the others do not.
