When cooking rice on the lowest burner setting, the rice burns on the bottom of the pan. I was thinking that if there was some kind of rack that could hold the pot about 2 inches higher over the flame, that may be enough to reduce the heat to the pot. Any other ideas?

Many people find this issue when cooking with gas. There are hundreds of heat diffusers, higher racks etc. for helping with this issue. The simple solution I found was using thicker cookware. Now I use cast iron or cast aluminum instead of the really thin stuff and it made a huge difference!
