Suburban stovetop not lighting

Wife and I are cleaning our TT today and making sure everything works. Noticed that one of the rear burners on our cooktop wont light. Everything else woks normally. I smell gas, the igniter sparks. It will light easily with a match. Cant quite figure out what is going on. Has anyone had this problem or any ideas?

As a season wake up call.....get the burners running what ever way you can. Let them burn for at least a minute. Then close off the dials and see if they restart with the igniter again.

How many burners do you have?

Do you actually see a good spark for each burner?

If it lights with a match are you SURE you
are getting a good spark?
Can you plainly see the spark?

I thought my piezo igniter was bad but discovered the little wires that go from the igniter to the spark gap at the burner had developed tiny cracks.
The spark was going to ground out the cracked wire and not getting to the burner. I replaced the defective wires but could have probably got by with just some electrical tape temporarily.

Could be a couple of things happening. Dirty/plugged orifice or defective electrode. Service manual is kinda hard to find. You won't find it on Suburban's website.

If it lights with a match it doesn't sound like a plugged orifice.

The stove has 3 burners. I can plainly see a spark when I turn the igniter. I tried to let them burn for a minute, but it didn't make a difference. It's one of the rear burners .

Is the spark you see in the right place to light the burner?

I used to have a stove that had a little label "Light this burner first". All the other burners lit off that one.

When you light it with a match, does it burn as well as the other two? If not then something might have gotten spilled where the orifice is partly plugged.

They will light independently. I think it does burn as well as the rest, but I need to double check.

My advice is to remove the cooking grid
and raise the splash guard.
Turn the sparker again and be sure the
bad burner has a good spark.
Then look very closely near the spark and
see if there's anything that could be blocking the holes in the burner near
the spark gap.
Finally light the burner with a match and
look closely at the spark gap and see if
you in fact have a flame at that point.

If you're getting a good spark at the burner it must be missing the gas at that spot due to a flake of rust or a piece of debris.

I can't think of anything else.

Good luck!

Not on my camper but indoor cooktop 1 burner would not light. Even though you could see a spark it would not light. What had happened to it was when wife was cooking some boilover hit the igniter and cracked the hot igniter and cracked the porcelin and the next time she went to use it it would not light had to replace the ignitor after that it worked fine. I don't think on the suburban stove you can just replace the Igniter you have to replace the burner assy. as the igniter is welded to the burner.

I had that problem, and a toothpick cleaned out the debris in the little ports on the burner where the spart takes place. Try that.

Ahh! There's very little pressure from the gas. If you have washed the burner parts (the aluminum part with orifices, not the grates), the orifices could simply each be filled with a water droplet and the burner will never light. Simply remove that part and blow through it from the back side. Water will spray out. Reassemble and all will be well.

Well not sure what happened. Like I said, it had good spark and gas. I lit it with a match and all burners looked about the same. I took it all apart. The orfice looked clear, but blew it out anyway. I took the burner apart and all was clean. The tube looked clear and blew it out anyway. Reassembled everything and it works better than before. Go figure. I guess there was something partially blocking something else and I blew it out. Thanks so much to everyone who replied!

Everyone of our burners ignites at a different setting. Try each burner at different setting from high to low and see what happens.
