Sunroof Radio Panel
Ok, so this is probably a crazy idea, and I just need someone to tell me so...
As I was driving down the highway with my wife asleep on the pax side, and my girls into their phones in the back seat, I was daydreaming.
I would like to have a CB, Scanner, FRS, and maybe some other electronics in my vehicle, but only on road trips.
So... Pondering on long drives... an idea has been haunting me...
Both of our road trip vehicles have a sunroof. But we don't use them on the highway...
Imagine a panel that would drop into the open sunroof, with radios and such on the bottom, and antennas on the top.
Vehicle modification would be limited to installation of a single 12V line/plug of sufficient amperage.
Challenges would be a) routing the above-mentioned 12V power and b) designing a panel that would seal out the rain, not generate a lot of wind noise, and, of course, not blow off.
Our two road trip vehicles are entirely different, so designing a panel that would fit both sunroof's would probably be impossible. BUT, maybe an electronics panel that mounts in each of two different sunroof panels?
The panel wouldn't have to fit the sunroof hole exactly if it could be made larger and seal against the roof around the sunroof hole. But, of course, needs to clamp down.
OK, I'm prepared. Tell me why this is stupid.
