Such a good place for a water heater switch!

Somebody could accidentally switch it on and not even know they did it and could burn up the element(no water in tank).

My previous TT had an on/off switch on the tank assembly itself. Had to access it by opening a kitchen cabinet door.

A lighted switch is a great idea but behind a cushion on the couch is not a good location.

My suggestion is to keep a watchful eye on that switch and make sure there is water in the tank.

Not any worse location for a switch than the duplex receptacle, at least the switch is partially hidden out of the user area.
