Thermostat randomly not triggering furnace

Last spring when it was still cold and we were camping at around 5am or so both nights we stayed the thermostat didn't kick the heater on again. We had to turn the furnace on and off several times for it to kick on again. The second day we had to pull the face plate off to restart it. When I had them test it at the dealer they said it tested fine... of course it did, it's working 90% if the time.... any suggestions?

Replace the thermostat if that is indeed the problem. The original thermostats are typically bi-metal strips or coils, very inexpensive. Or, and this is what a lot of folks (including me) do, replace it with a digital thermostat. In either case it’s a simple job.
