TV Antenna

I have a 2016 Shasta 185 FQ. It has the flying saucer type Omni TV Antenna witch leaves a lot to be desired. Has anyone replaced this antenna with something else ? It is my understanding that the antenna Head cannot be removed without damaging it to install a different type Head. Is this right. Thanks for any replies.

Not sure which antenna you have but recently FR is using the antenna shown below on some of its units. They claim to be omni-directional, but are designed like a directional antenna. Unfortunately they do not perform well as either. Many people are replacing them with a King Jack antenna. Be aware that the King Jack requires a larger hole in the roof than the existing antenna ( currently only passed the cable) . This is a relatively simple DIY project with the exception of having to be careful not to damage any wiring or duct work when enlarging the hole. If you do not use the tv a lot another option is purchase an external HD tv antenna and mount on fiberglass painters pole outside the RV.

Here a pic of mine. It's not the Bat Wing style.

I have the same Omni directional on our Cherokee 17BH, and had questions about reception. There is a push button for an amplifier on the interior coax connection inside. I had the dealer replace it because we had very intermittent reception. When I looked into it further, I found that we were on the edge of digital reception areas and they would come in and out. You may want to look at this or similar web sites which will let you know just what may or may not be available DTV Reception Maps - Watch Free TV in HD with a New TV Antenna. - TV Reception Maps

Totally agree, as these Omni antennas are only good for around 35 miles reception. 3 of my local stations are around 55 miles away. :-(. Still on the fence about what to do, but still considering telescoping flag pole with antenna on it.

I seem to remember that antenna having a lead for the fm radio in it. Double check off the back side of the booster. If you change the antenna to a jack or other type and care about the radio you may need to install and run a new fm antenna.
