TV qUESTIONS

i HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT TV RECEPTION. I HAVE A ROKU TV IN MY TRAVEL TRAILER. WHEN I AM AT HOME IT WORKS ON MY WIFI. I HAVE A CABLE HOOK UP BY MY SOLAR POWER CONNECTION. I HAVE BEEN TO PARKS THAT SAY THEY HAVE CABLE AND GIVE CHANNELS. DO I NEED A CERTAIN RECIEVER BOX LIKE I USE AT HOME WITH UVERSE, CAN I GET A FIRE STICK OR ROKU STICK? I AM ALITTLE UN KNOWLEDGABLE ABOUT THIS 2ND YEAR AT CAMPING IN A RV. LAST PARK I STAYED AT I USED MY HOTSPOT ON MY PHONE TO WATCH HULU CHANNELS. ANY HELP WILL BE HELPFUL.... THANKS DAVIDB

Hi and Welcome to FRF, from a fellow retired firefighter.

By the way, using all caps in forum posts, is considered as shouting.

Can't answer your Roku question but we use our cellphones as hot spot for our Dish app and for the tv's Chromecast.
Some RV parks have cable channels available by simply scanning on the tv's cable setting. A few require a separate cable box.

Hi,

I think you’re referring to two different things. The Roku is for streaming with WiFi or a hotspot. If the campground has cable, it is wired, not WiFi and you won’t use Roku with it. As bikendan mentioned, some require a cable box (I’ve only run into this once) and most don’t.

I hope this helps!

Roku and Chromecast rely on an internet connection independent of cable and generally satellite, unless the satellite provider is supplying internet access. Your campground would have to provide internet access Aka wifi at speeds and connectivity that would allow streaming of your content choices.

Your cell service provider in most cases gives you internet access. You can "cast" YouTube and or YouTube TV to your flat-screen right from your phone. Likely your Roku too via the app - I don't have a Roku so might be off a tad on that one but would expect it to work the same as the others. Heck, let's throw in Amazon's Firestick. If you have a cell service activated iPad, you can do the same from it using the various apps.

Finally, you can turn your phone into a hot spot and create your own wifi and thus use your Roku by connecting it to said hot spot - or connect any of the other internet enabled devices.

Your Roku TV likely does not have a tuner in it. In order to use an antenna or the campgrounds cable you need an external tuner box like this one:

Just make sure if campground cable is connected to your TV to disconnect it before you drive off!
