Verizon - phone, jetpack, internet and television!

I currently have AT&T but stopped in at Verizon the other day. Their manager told me I could switch to them and receive unlimited and get a jetpack for the internet and stream movies. He was saying we could be driving and my wife could connect the laptop to the jetpack and would be able to work while I'm driving or stream movies. Also when we reached a campsite we would have internet and streaming movies.

This sounds great to me, is anyone using Verizon for this and if so are you satisfied?

It's not unlimited.

40 GB of data will run you $150/mo

But, yes, it would work as described. If you're streaming lots of video you'll run out though.

I used to have the unlimited where I worked, and it was fantastic in the 12 square mile area I worked.

Did you by chance have the jetpack that enables you to connect to laptop, tv, phone, tablets etc.?

I have the jetpack and it works very well for me. I have used it all up and down the mid-Atlantic and as far down south as lower Georgia. As for the unlimited plan with Verizon, I got it, but, I am not sure if it will work as good as they told you. Just saying.

Yes. I had it for government use. It was like connecting to a wifi router. Could connect multiple devices.

A jetpack will allow you to connect to multiple WiFi devices which can include those items. It's going to all use the same pool of data though.

I was fortunate to get in on a Mobley connected car plan three years ago. You can put that chip in a jetpack (so I heard from a friend). Just using the Mobley, it is limited to five devices connected.
Unlimited data anywhere you can get an AT&T signal for $23 a month. We have often used over 400 gig during a month of streaming HD movies and internet use.

Unless something VERY recently changed, that salesman misled you. The shareable Jetpack data is limited to 15-20gb until it drops so slow as to be unusable for all but email.

Check for unlimited data plans on www.rvmobileinternet.com. They keep up with the latest and greatest in cellular offerings for RVers.

Correct as we have the Verizon unlimited plan. At a certain point that seems to vary they do indeed throttle back your service so for streaming not so good but for email etc it works ok.

Yes, depends on the plan, but most of them are capped or throttled at some point.

New data only plans have caps and then a fee if you pass that cap.. for example, the 20GB plan is $90/line/month and is $10 per 1GB after the cap. The 40GB plan is $150 and has the same fee per GB over the allowance.

There are options for using your phone as a hotspot too.. that way you wouldn't need to purchase one.

It really depends on your usage. If you are binge watching Netflix all the time you're probably going to run out of data quickly. If you're watching the occasional news clip and a few shows a week you might be ok. Most people use less data than they think.

That would be me. I just need enough to stream a couple episodes of Netflix (maybe even just one) that last hour before bed. Oh, and harass people on this forum.

If you are going to be traveling in the West then Verizon and AT&T is your best bet. I like Verizon. If you get to an area that you cannot connect, well that is fine by me as well. It gives me time to "disconnect".

Sales hype-don't fall for it. We went with a jetpack for justifying bank accounts only. We were told that 2 GB would be adequate. NOT. The second time we used it, we went over by .01 before we were notified. That was another $19 on the bill for overage charges. We quit using it, but still had to pay the fees until the contract was up. Total waste of money for us.

The Jetpack has its own phone number and doesn't share with other plans. It is also illegal for those in the front seat of a vehicle to watch movies.

Verizon - phone, jetpack, internet and television!

I've been with Verizon for about 15 years and I chose it because I travel a lot and most always have a signal. I also have a jetpack and I've been happy with it most of the time. It works when you can get a Verizon signal. Make sure it's a newer jetpack. I first had one that became obsolete as soon as I bought it and it was terrible. Also, take care. Anytime I go into a Verizon store it costs me money. They are there to sell what they want and not necessarily what you want to buy. But overall I rank them an 8 out of 10.

Our experience with Verizon not good. We had an old Jetpack which they reconnected with a $25 charge then $80 per month for "unlimited". We were still throttled back after streaming 2 or 3 movies. Of course they wanted me to buy new and told me my 2 year old Samsung phone would not accept an International Sim card which would have allowed, calling, hotspot and internet. Very poor service for a high cost, after service charge, $80 per month. We are looking around for other plans.

We have 4 Verizon phones and a Jetpack that we leave in the RV. We are on the unlimited plan which I thought meant unlimited. Well the phones are but the jetpack is limited to 15 gigs. It still works for the rest of the cycle but slows way down. You can then switch to using your phone as a hot spot.

I had Verizon jetpack with 2 phones, but the overages killed me and I was paying 180/month. Went to T-Mobile, limit 100 G to slowdown using hotspot on 2 phones. Costs $110 /month. Almost everyplace Verizon works, T-Mobile works.

Works great if you are camping where there is a good Cell signal. We tend to camp where there is a weak signal if at all.
