Water Heater question

When camping,
Do you operate the WH the same way as you would a home by leaving it "on" the whole time?
I understand that if you do not want to run out of hot water your supposed to run both electric and gas correct? On a 6 gal.

Some do, some don't. It has been often discussed.

When at a full hook-up site we leave ours on electric all the time and add the propane for quicker recovery when showering. My switches for both propane and electric are conveniently located in our control panel near the bathroom.

When boondocking we leave it on propane all the time.
I don't worry about the few pennies saved by only turning it on when you think you need it. I want hot water anytime I open a hot water tap. That might be a 4:00 AM emergency and I don't care to wait until it heats up.

When hooked up to shore power we keep ours on both electric and gas. The gas allows quick recovery and the electric maintains the temp when not in use.

Ours gets turn on (electricity) when the trailer is hooked to power and water and turned off when we're packing up to leave. We never use the propane side of our 10 gal. heater... don't ever need it. I do turn it on a couple of times a year just to check it.

You are most welcome.

One other thing I will add is even with both heating methods in use, (electric/propane) you can still run out of hot water. More so on the smaller 6 gallon tanks than the 10 gallon. The INCOMING water temperature will have a HUGE impact on how quickly it recovers too.

Using both doesn't provide an endless supply or to be confused with a tankless type water heater but it works very well with a little bit of consideration.
