Water Pump Pulsating

I have a 2018 Berkshire XL. I noticed the water pump pulsates. Is this normal? And when running on generator everytime it pulsates all the lights dim. Anyone else experience this?

A bypass valve, faucet, or low point drain left barely open will cause my water pump to run for a second, stop, then repeat. I'd call that pulsating. Are you leaking from any water lines or fittings?

Pulsing means that the pump is sensing a demand and it short cycles. I would check all water lines for leaks and if those check out then I would check the actual water pump. It may have an internal leak in the diaphragm or a loose fitting and it is pulling air through the line somehow.

Replace the pump. Try to buy it on Amazon where you can return it if the pulsating does not go away.

I think we need clarification from the OP. Does it run when the faucets are all closed and there is no demand? Or does it pulse like every half second or so when a faucet is opened?

Does not run with facets are closed. Only when open and pulsates and lights dim to the pulsation.

As I remember, there is an adjustment on what I'd call a 'sensitivity switch' - it's a pressure sensor on the pump. Adjusted too sensitive, it calls for the pump to run too much. My technical terms should not be used in a court of law!

Some really high end pumps have a differential setting to say it turns on at X psi and off at x psi. The difference is the differential setting. My bet is the op pump will only have an off adjustment if any at all.

This is pretty normal but the lights dimming is not. Could indicate loose connections or a weak battery

Easy way to fix the pump issue it to add an expansion tank like this.

I quieted the 'drumming sound' by tucking bubble wrap between pump hoses and the cheap veneer style panels it was touching, thus making that pulsating sound. Helped a ton.

I don't own a Berkshire, but assuming they use a similar type water pump I think we need to understand why the lights are dimming. Pumps don't draw that much power. Even moving my slide in/out the lights barely dim. Sound like this pump is clogged up or the motor is toast.

My pump is a low-end pump - Pentair Shurflo 4008 RV Revolution By-Pass pump. It has a hex head adjustment on the pressure switch. Here is a pic of troubleshooting instructions from my manual. Also, see post #8 from 2022.
