WildWood 27REIS Converter Question

I have a new 2018 FR WildWood 27REIS. When we picked up the TT, I am positive I heard the RV Center that sold us the unit state that the 12V system (battery) will charge when hooked up to the Tow Vehicle (TV), AND when hooked up to shore power.

I do not doubt that the TV is charging the battery, but I put the camper in storage and hooked up shore power (did not disconnect the battery). Went to do something in it, and the 12V system was dead. Is there a problem with the converter (110V AC to 12V DC), or is there really not a converter on the TT?

Any comments or thoughts welcome. I am going to call the RV dealer tomorrow to clarify as well.

check to ensure that the circuit breaker for the main was in the on position on your distribution panel or if you have a separate breaker for the converter. let the forum know what you find

There has to be a converter. A TT of that caliber with all those 12v accessories cannot survive only being charged by the tow vehicle. Did you by any chance throw a battery disconnect? Was the breaker for the converter turned on?

ALL RVs come with CONverters.
Very few also come with INverters.

Check the fuses on the converter. Including the two in the center that protect against cables being hooked up backwards. Starting checking things with a volt meter.

The breaker was on. I will say that I only had 15 amps hooked up in storage. I know only one side of the LED light on the head of the plug lights up. I have not looked behind the box at the wiring. You would think power would run across the whole bus.

And yes, there is a breaker on the 110 side marked for the converter. And it is in the ON position.

Battery Charging

During the winter, when not in use, I periodically plug my Wildwood 27 in to "shore power" to recharge the batteries. Always have, with different TT's. You have a problem if it doesn't charge them.

Latest Update

OK. I think I know what is happening with the battery charge and the converter. When in storage, I am plugged into a 15 or 20 amp plug. I have this three headed adapter, and it allows me to plug into the trailer through the 50 amp service line with only 15 amps.

When on full 50 amp service, there are two lit blue LEDs on the top of the plug. When plugged into the 15 amp storage power, only one blue LED is lit.

Over the weekend, on 50 amp service, the battery stayed charged.

I, mistakenly it appears, assumed that once the main bus was energized, the 15 amps was available anywhere on the trailer.

I was talking to one of the guys in the campground the wife and I were staying at this weekend. He said that the trailer boxes are different, with separate lugs. It appears that the converter to charge the battery is on the lug not being energized. Other things, like the refrigerator and microwave do have power.

Hope that makes sense.

Let me know if anyone has any thoughts.

A 50 to 30 adapter and then a 30 to 15 amp adapter should energize both sides of the 50 amp panel, albeit with a lot less amperage.

totally agree with scottbrownstein! we have run the trailer from a standard 15 amp outlet. we use a 15 amp to 30 amp connector (both three pins) then a 30 amp to 50 amp dogbone (3 pins to 4 slots). both a 15 amp and 30 amp circuit have one hot lead. the 50 amp circuit has 2 hot leads. the 30 amp to 50 amp dogbone jumpers the one incoming hot lead to both of the output hot leads so you trailer will have both hot leads energized. where did you get the 15 amp to 50 amp adapter? i'm surprised it does not have the jumper in it.

Looks like you've figured it out. The one leg powered is not the one the converter is on.

You have a couple of choices in remedying the situation. Buy a 15A to 50A dogbone that jumps the hot legs together so both busses are powered. If you do this, you'll have to be extremely careful about power management, Or swap the converter with a breaker on the other bus that you don't need to have powered on when in storage, so that the converter is powered when plugged into the 20 amp plug. Ultimately you should have a 50 amp receptacle installed at the storage yard.

Are you using a dogbone adapter? This should direct the current to both busses.
