Will computer DVD/CD player work on TV
Wondering if my Apple DVD/CD player will allow me to play DVD's on my Jensen 32" TV. I see there is a USB port on the back. This will allow me to not have to use the dash radio/DVD/CD which gets really hot while playing 2 hour DVD.

The simplest setup is for your CD/DVD player and tv to have HDMI ports.

If it's not built into your computer I don't think you could use it as a stand alone player. It would still have to go thru your computer. But thru your computer it should work. I do it with my pc.

I'm going to give it a try later today.

I plug my MacBook directly into the tv with HDMI and it works great, I have the same DVD player but I use it connected to the laptop, as well as a little hard drive for movies.

I think there needs to be a way to control it and along there isn't. No stop, start, and pause. We don't have a laptop, just iPads. May be a way with the lightning adapter that has a usb and HDMI on it. I see there is an app for controlling the DVD. Will try later today.

The USB port is bi-directional. Plugged it into the TV, the TV would would act like a second monitor. You may have to internally set up your Mac to direct it to the TV.

DVD player
Yes it will work if it is just a DVD and CD player and not a computer like everyone on here thinks it is.

I can't connect the DVD/CD player to my iPad. There is only a lightning connection and the player has USB. I tried connecting it directly to the TV and nothing happened. DVD wouldn't insert, no power. I should have tried switching the source on the TV to USB from HDMI 1 used for satellite. Will try that tomorrow, but I don't think it will work. We really don't need it anyway as we have OTA TV and satellite. The bedroom TV has a built in DVD player if needed. Would be nice to have anyway.

It looks like what you have in the picture is the auxiliary CD/DVD drive for Apple computers that dont have a built in drive. The computer powers it and controls the whole operation. I have doubts that what you pictured is a DVD player.

Exactly.
Honestly, you'd be better off just going to Wal-Mart and getting a regular DVD player for $30.

X2, I have attempted this before. After all of the agony and final success, the picture was grainy.

As asr524 mentions you have an auxiliary CD/DVD drive for an Apple computer, the computer contains the decoding/playback software and the power needed to make the drive operate, so it will never work by itself.
The USB specifications are applicable to all computer systems utilizing usb ports.
The USB 1.x and 2.0 specifications provide a 5 V supply on a single wire to power connected USB devices. A unit load is defined as 100 mA in USB 2.0, and 150 mA in USB 3.0. A device may draw a maximum of 5 unit loads (500 mA) from a port in USB 2.0; 6 (900 mA) in USB 3.0.
There also exists a convention for charging devices. These kinds of ports allow for currents up to 1.5 A (also using 5V). However, the USB port is rated to withstand current up to 5 A--so some manufacturers may go out of spec and offer a higher maximum current.
As power is equal to current times voltage, all you have to do is multiply 5V with the current the device is drawing from the port.
