Haven't camped there but I hear very good things. I think all the sites are on the water. The sunsets from East coast of Lake Ontario are rated among the top 10 in the world on many travel sites.
When we RV in the area we are generally at Westcott Beach State Park - on the water, but no electric, sewer or water at the site. We can see Association Island in the distance. Be careful of speeding. In addition to sheriffs and State police, the State Park police also patrol the roads along the lake.
Sackets Harbor, just North of you, is a scenic village. If you have never been to the St. Lawrence Seaway, the 1,000 islands (there are actually over 1,700 of them) will be only about 45 minutes from you (Alexandria Bay) and WELL worth the trip.

We stay at Association Island at least once a year. The sites in the H section are on the lake and IMHO they are the best. The only issue we have ever had is the sewage hookups. In some cases you might find the septic hookup on the wrong side of your coach. The waterfront sites were originally set up for motorhomes to pull in. When staying in May you might have to deal with the May flies.

Many of the sites on the water have 2 sewer hookups so you could back in, or drive in. We stayed last May for the first time and we will go back. Just not in May. We live in Kingston, Ont, close to the water and deal with May flies here at our home. But they were unbearable there at that time. Luckily we were just using the campground as a place to sleep, and didn't spend much time there. August would be a great time to visit the area.

X2 on the Thousand Island tours. Boldt Castle and Singer Castle are two places you should visit when in the 1000 Island. I can say from experience that you will enjoy the sights (I an chief mate on the Rockport 1000 Islands boat lines.)

X3 on the boat tours - especially the smaller boats like at Rockport. DW and I used to live in Gananoque on the Canadian side and we go back there every summer. In high school, I had summer jobs working at local marinas in Rockport and Ivy Lea. The 1000 Islands are absolutely beautiful.

caper, you have your PMs turned off. Please PM me.
