Assuming you're coming from your listed home location, I'd recommend taking US301 down to I295 and avoid that whole unpredictable Fredericksburg-Richmond-Petersburg corridor. 301 is two lane highway part of the way (mainly between Bowling Green and the I295 junction), but there's far less traffic and far less likelihood of major traffic delays.

I haven't done 95 through Richmond with the camper, but I recently talked to a guy that said it's fine. Just time it right to not hit rush hour.

I can tell you this, though. I-295 is just about the roughest road I've taken the camper on. It will beat you to death.

I actually prefer 95 south thru Richmond, 2 years ago I tried 295 and it was terrible, and they even had signs up warning you ROUGH road ahead!!!!!

295 is a better drive than 95 through Richmond

I drove 95 through Richmond this past March and I thought the road and traffic were terrible. Also as you get closer to Fredricksburg MD you'll pick up heavy road construction where they are adding what appears to be additional E-Z Pass commuter lanes.

I've used this route several times to get down to Raleigh from WNY but the March trip was my last. I'll take another route that adds about 75 miles to the trip but is well worth it to avoid anything I95.

295 Or 95 by Richmond Va.

I take I-81 to I-64 to route 288 to 95 avoids all dc/Fredericksburg/Richmond corridor mess

That is some good advice right there.
