The NP's are nice - but have a few drawbacks. We stayed at Blackwoods last summer. The NP's aren't site specific, so you get what they give you, but we had a decent site. Very few of those sites where solar friendly but otherwise, this is a perfect spot for your Roo. The campground bathrooms were new and quite nice, but no showers. You have to use the pay showers outside the entrance. They were close by an clean. Kind of a hassle, but considering we saved about $70 a night it was tolerable. Blackwoods is in a great location. You can walk to the overlook of the ocean, its right on the south trail head for Cadillac Mountain, and close to Bar Harbor and the carriage trails in the park. The park was very quite after dark and just peaceful and relaxing. And the park rangers put on a couple of excellent programs at the amphitheater. Our son dragged us to the first one - but after that my wife and I where as into it as he was,

For our next trip we're thinking we will try Sea Wall which is on the island but farther south. We drove through and checked it out. Nice area. The sites are a little close, but great ocean front views you can walk or bike to. Same trade-off as Blackwoods - no hookups or on-site showers, but a fraction of the cost.

There are a bunch of private campgrounds on the island as well. The KOA on the water looks really nice, as do several of the others. For us, we liked the rustic feel of the NP's, but if full hookups and more amenities are your thing there are several good options.

Last thought - we went the second to last week of August. Things were busy, but we were able to drive to Bar Harbor and park in town. Also able to drive into the park and park at the carriage trail head. Our friends were there in July and that was not the case, so depending on your schedule, that may be a consideration. The bus service is good though if you do go during the peak season.

Regardless od where you stay - we don't have many NP's here on the east coast, and Acadia is absolutely worth a visit.

I guess most people use the campground bathroom and showers but be never do. I don't think we have ever been in any campground bathrooms or for that matter the rest areas bathroom on the Interstate

Two alternatives to on the island camping would be Lamoine SP and Timberland rv park, both about a 1/2 hr from Bar Harbor. Timberland is off of RT 3 and has huge pull thru sites full hookup and Lamoine is across the Narrows from Acadia with no hookups but some nice grassy sites as well as wooded

On the way up I would suggest a couple of days at Camden Hills State Park, a lot of nice places in the area.

Site 4 is a nice site. We camped next door last year (site 5). even though you're by the road, your camper will be facing the opposite direction. (more private)
This year, we will be on site 25 which is a back up site.
Have fun

This is with the( Interagency Senior Pass ) that anyone 62 or older can get for 10.00 dollars for a lifetime pass. The normal rate without the pass would be 240.00, the pass has a 90.00 dollar discount. That's 25.00 per nite! The Senior Pass is good at most if not all C.O.E./ U.S. Forest / government/ National parks ect... We use the C.O.E. parks whenever we can , due to the price and mostly paved level sites that are not on top of each other and very clean.
Love that senior pass........you save a lot with it. We'll be 3 nights at Schoodic Point CG next August for 75.00 (W/E included). And if ever you take your car to Acadia NP, it will be free for you and anyone traveling in your car.

Once out of the CG, if you turn LEFT you'll end up in Winter Harbor (10 minutes away from the CG). There, you'll find the Ravens Nest. It's an Italian restaurant. A little pricey, but the food is excellent. There's also a grocery store, and a hardware store (worth going to). There are other stores too.

Once out of the CG, if you turn RIGHT, you'll end up in Birch Harbor (10 minutes away). There, you'll find the The Pickle Wrinkle Restaurant and Pub. The food is more like burgers, pizza, lobster rolls but it's good. There's also live entertainment (Check their schedule). Facing that restaurant is the gas station (the closest to the CG and good to know)
