Bayley's Camping Resort

We are heading there in the middle of next month. Looking for things to do off site that are what I call "Must Do's or Must Sees" type of things. I know there is the Old Orchard Beach Car Show which should be great. We are looking for some breweries, vineyards, historical and pictorially places and any other ideas you might have.

Sorry.....just got back to Maine from PEI.

I don't know of any vineyards in Maine.

As for breweries head to Portland (20 minutes away)
there's:
Rising Tide brewering company
Allagash brewering company
Shipyard brewering company
Sebago brewery
And quite a few more. Here's an interesting idea.....Look online for the Maine Brew Bus on Commercial Street in Portland

A picturesque place is Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth.....Beautiful. While in the area, there's also Two Lights State Park....You can bring a picnic and charcoal briquettes with you as there are grills on site. and you can also stop at the Lobster Shack not far away (great lobster rolls).

As for historical, head to Portland Waterfront......cobblestone roads and great little shops. It is a stop for many cruise ships.

Have fun

My favorite brewery in OOB is Barrelled Souls barreledsouls.com. All barreled aged beer and they get very creative. Second is Banded bandedbrewing.com cuz it is a cool place to hang out and have a beer. Third is Allagash. I am a big fan of their Curieux.

As far as lobster goes, I like Miss Megan. Look her up on Facebook. The lobster is so fresh, you still taste the salt water and her story is cute. We have gotten the lobster from Bailey's too and it is good and convenient.

OOB puts on a very nice fireworks display... Try to catch one show if you can.

Lastly, if you are into disk golf or are curious, there is a very nice course in Scarborough called Pleasant hill. philldiscgolf.com. In my opinion, disk golf is a great activity because ALL skill levels can play and have fun. I have taken my 5 year old granddaughter, DW with a bad knee and son who is close to scratch and we all have fun.

Eastern Trail is just a mile down the road. Very nice rail trail we bike whenever in Scarborough/ Old orchard region. More trails in Portland and is a great little city to investigate. Always make sure to stop at the Clambake(for fried clams), just down the road from Bailey's and Ricetta's (pizza) in South Portland

Most lobster places in Maine cook their lobsters in Ocean water......One of the reason Maine is the place to go to have a great lobster.

Fireworks in Old Orchard are showcase every Thursday..... all summer long.

We just came back from PEI and had a lot of mussels and lobsters while we were there.

Conclusion: PEI have the best mussels (they are out of this world) and Maine have the best lobsters (The best..... and no one can compete with Maine)

If there's anything you need to know that may help you while in Maine, just send me a PM.

We live 30 minutes from Old Orchard Beach and know the area quite well.

If you happen to go to York's Animal Kingdom, watch out for the monkeys.

I second Fort Williams. You can spend several hours there. Beautiful scenery! Also, had best lobster rolls at a little cart that sells them there. Line gets big but worth it!

It's a bit of a hike, but Acadia National Park is always worth a visit.

I agree that Acadia is beautiful......we go there at least twice a year (Lucky we live in Maine), but it's also 3 1/2 hours away from Old Orchard Beach.....probably I thought for next time you come to Maine.

Duneit mentionned about York Animal Kingdom, and to be careful with the monkeys !!!!! They are in cages......nothing to worry about. However, it is a nice place to visit and it's 30 to 45 minutes south of Old Orchard. They also have an amusement park there.

BTW- The monkeys, how do I say this, play with themselves??? against the front fence. My grandchildren asked me, What are they doing? Ahhhhh, I had no answer but changed the subject.

I think Fort Williams is in the plans. Arcadia is just so far away. The driving alone would be a long day.

Duneit

I would pass the grand kid to her mother (my daughter) or father and let them explain if the question was asked. at 3-3/4 years old I'm hoping those type of questions don't get asked for a while or at least not when DW and I have her.

Appreciate all the ideas. Please keep them coming.

I camp at OOB every memorial day at least.

Breweries:

Barreled souls!!!! great beer. Great place. Pick up a growler one night.. drink by the campfire.. bring back the next day, refill and repeat

Also, there are too many good breweries in Portland to name them all, but if you can get to only one, go to Bissell Brothers! ~20 minutes from Baylee's.

If I were you, I would buy a kite.....no matter what size , and bring it to Fort Williams....great place to fly them !
Bring a little picnic with you and you will enjoy a wonderful day on the rocky coast of maine (where most people don't usually go)......nice trail, a small beach, and the most photographed light house in Maine.

BTW....It's Acadia and not Arcadia...... I still don't know where folks got the name Arcadia from !

Maine in September

Dre,

Kites on order. Should be here some time this week. Granddaughter loves Minnie Mouse so i bought a Minnie Mouse kite for her. I have a Pirate Ship kite that's about 4'x4'x3'. Multiple sails and even an eye patch.

Thanks for the heads up. Im sure she will have a blast with it.
