Best RV Campgrounds in Georgia & S.E.

Looking to hear your thoughts on the best RV campgrounds in the south. Maybe there's one off the beaten path. One of our favorites is Topsail State Park in the panhandle of Florida.

The bigger the net the more you catch. No kids but we always travel with our two labs. Space is important. Just got back from Jekyll Island in Coastal Ga. Very disappointed...felt like we were in a trailer park. Our fire pit was just a few feet from the neighbors sewer "deposit".

Skidaway Island State park is really nice. Near Savannah. You would have been much happier there when you visited Jekyll Island area.

Nice get away for us was General Coffee State park. Not a heckuva lot to do there, but quiet, nice nature trail.. just a relaxing time.

A.H. Stephens state park is another nice one. Nice bit of local history.

We have heard a lot of good things about FDR state park. We have reservations for June timeframe there. Little White House, Calloway Gardens and several other fun things to do there.

Thanks for the reply. Are the ticks as bad at Skidaway as they are at Jekyll? We have stayed a FDR State Park. It is a very nice park.

Here are a few for NC in no particular order:

State and Local Parks:
Kerr Lake
Hyco Lake
Jordan Lake (Crosswinds is Nice)

Private campgrounds:
Sycamore Lodge (will need travel resorts america or coast to coast to stay here)
Crosswinds Family Campground
Jones Station RV park (good for seeing chapel hill and durham)
Paws forever (haven't been there due to no kids rule but it is supposed to be dog heaven)
Mayberry Campground (site of the mayberry rally)

Virginia
Misty Mountain
Endless Caverns

South Carolina
Pirateland

Check out campgroundgallery.com for descriptions and pictures of multiple parks in these areas.

Most all the north Georgia State Parks are great. We like. FDR, Cloudland Canyon, Fort Mountain, Tallulah Gorge, Blackrock Mountain and Moccasin Creek. There is also many COE parks in Georgia on many nice lakes.

Not ticks, but had some issues with biting flies.

Mountain View Campground
In the North Georgia Mountains near Hiawassee Georgia is a little gem. only 32 spots full hook ups with 30 and 50 amp. Plenty of room and lots for bigger rigs. Dog Friendly. Not a lot of amenities. They have a Music Hall that during the summer season hosts live music, movies and Karaoke. It is off the main roads so very quiet. Friendly helpful owners. Great central location to the areas offerings such as Helen, Lake Chatuge, Brasstown Bald the highest peak in GA and the John C Campbell Folk School. If hiking is your thing, the Appalachian Trail crosses two different highways near here. Recently renovated to feature great WI-FI and Cable which is included in the rate. Check them out and if you book tell them Marvin sent ya!! lol

The City of Greenville AL has one of the best CG's ever. Very inexpensive very clean, very quiet and the employee running it last February made a campfire before I pulled in.

He asked do you like a fire or are allergic to smoke. I liked fire. He said if your allergic when we can we put you in non fire area.

Lots of good eats nearby & good stores.

Been to two. If you want to be off the beaten path, Hard Labor Creek SP. Stayed one night on our way home to Mi from Fl. Very nice and all the facilities are new. Might need a cell phone booster. Last Dec. we stayed two nights at Fort McCallister SP, just south of Savannah, and very nice on the coast.

We have stayed at Pine Mountain RV Resort near Callaway Gardens and Little White House. Open area can handle large rigs. Pet friendly. Swimming pool. Etc. Cost around 40.00 a night give or take 5.00.

gamtnbear, Marvin, Is that Bald Ridge CG you are talking about? It sure sounds like it. Don't be telling everyone about our little gem's on here, it's hard enough to get reservations as it is! LOL!!! BTW I live in Blairsville.

We like J C Cooper Campground on Kerr lake in North central NC. E/W lakefront sites. You and the dogs can swim right off your site. Good fishing as well. For an oceanfront campground we liked Edisto SP in Edisto, SC.

Nope the ones he mentioned does not include Baldridge which is the best CC on the lake. We personally like GA coastal rv resort near Brunswick. Fantastic cg. Later RJD

We like to stay at Lake Tobesoffkee Recreation Area just off the bypass in Macon. Beautiful views and only $22 a night for full hook ups. There are two campgrounds and we stay at Claystone.

Just spent the New Years Weekend at Gulf State Park; Gulf Shores, Alabama. Since I was here last they have doubled the bike trails. Many are elevated. Great views and very enjoyable! Great Place year round. Lots to see and do locally. Great sea food restaurants near by.

gamtnbear and aceinspp, OOPS! Sorry but I was thinking about Bald Mountain CG and not Bald Ridge. Both are very nice CG's that we like to visit.
