Boondocking in Adirondacks

We just bought a used trailer yesterday!! I live in VA and need to go North to find cooler temps May-Aug. I need boondocking and free camping sites from Virginia to New York and all around the Adirondacks. I will have an extended cab truck pulling a 34' trailer. I will have 1-2 dogs traveling with me as well.

Also, if anyone knows about what permits I would need?

Thanks,
Kathy

I've camped in Lake Placid the past couple of summers and before that around the Lake George area and have never come across areas to boon dock. IMO NYS, or Eastern states as a whole are not as conducive to free camping like the Western states, where a lot of the land is owned by the federal Bureau of Land Management, or BLM. There is a website for free camping locations nation wide, like Free Campsites.Net. I just punched it up and it did list several places available in the Adirondacks so check it out.

NY State DEC and State parks info websites:

Here are two sites to help you see camp areas run by the NYS Dept of Conservation and the NY State Parks & Recreation:

https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7825.html

https://parks.ny.gov/regions/

The NYS DEC operates many many rustic campsites throughout the Adirondack and Catskill mountains. They also have some with all the conveniences.
The NY State Parks & Rec. operates campgrounds outside of the Adirondacks and the Catskill mountain areas. These parks more often than not have more conveniences than the majority of DEC operated campgrounds in the mountains. Do some surfing of these sites to get to know the areas you wish to stay in. NY has a huge amount of great camping to offer.

The DEC offers quite a bit free camping but some you must register for permission.
