Campground at Asheboro NC

I was looking at Yogi Bear Jellystone rv park. Has anyone stayed there. It's supposed to be close to the NC Zoological Park in Asheboro NC.

Are you going just for the zoo or a general trip to the area?

Yogi is brand new, just opened last year. I don't think all the activities are available yet. They only have some sites open and are still working on the others. Another good CG to stay with kids is zooland family campground.. They have mini golf, a pool, a playground, a jumping pillow, and a catch and release fishing pond. If you are a coast to coast member they are in network. I'm not sure if they still accept passport America. They are much cheaper than yogi. THe downside is the sites are very narrow.

I'm going to stay a week, we just want to get away. We hope to take granddaughter with us. We only plan on going to the zoo a couple of times. Granddaughter watches kids shows on Direct, we just plan on walking around the campground. Granddaughter gets fussy , so we plan on staying close to camper

A great campground is Arrowhead, part of the National system near Badin lake off of HWY 109. 50 AMP hookup water is available but not at the sites, you have to tank. There are bike trails, boating, hiking and limited internet connectivity.

The road going in is dirt but the campground is paved, nice bathhouse. It is about 30 minutes from Asheboro.

Another vote for zooland..We have stayed there many times and the kids have a ball. The wife and I drove thru Yogi Bear over the summer, and they only had a few spots ready, with one kids slide......maybe its came a long way since then....

YogiBear in Asheboro is just getting started. they have like 15-20 sites maybe. Last fall they did not have the bathhouse finished or anything up and running. NO pool or anything. It needs another year or two to get it like it needs it to be. Very spartan at this time. BUT lots to do and see around Asheboro with the ZOO too. We stayed at Zooland several years ago. I live 45-50 miles north of Asheboro and I would not go to Yogi yet with my grands. IF it was just me and the wife maybe for a day or two but not a week with young kids.

I am familiar with Yogi Bear in Asheboro, I work for the city as well. They've been really working hard on the CG this year getting ready for round 2 to get going. While in the CG checking on utilities that are connected to the city sewer system for collection purposes. There is some speculation as to when or how long it would take them to be fully operational. I generally try stay in touch with them on a month to month basis, when my job allows me to. Since I only live 20 min away, we're planning on waiting for them to be fully operational. With that said, I personally project them to be fully functional by the middle or end of 2018. If and only while weather is permitting. The Yogi Bear opportunity will also be another CG including Zooland for families to enjoy the NC Zoo while traveling year around. There's plenty to see and do in the Asheboro area. So plan on bringing the family for some summer fun.
