Where? North end? south, east or west! We really like the Jellystone in Cosby TN east of G-burg.

I have looked at website of "Riverside Rv park" in Seviorville, thinking about going there, some friends stayed at "River Plantation" they liked it. It is a little closer to Pigeon Forge, coming from I-40. I have not camped in Smokey mountain area yet, been there many times.

There all a little pricey, if you ask me. Most seem $50 +, for full hook ups.

This is always my first recommendation for the PF area. They are down in a little valley off the main road so noise is not an issue. 50 amp sites are $36/night and they do offer different discounts.
Another one that looks nice is Pine Mountain in PF. It is a little more pricey but gets good reviews.

We loved Cades Cove, water only, need generator. Great for a few days.

I stayed at Douglas Dam TVA camp ground, has water and electric, cost about $18.00 a night I think the last time we stayed their. You will be right on the Dam Resv. It is only a 10 to 20 min. ride to Seviorville and Pigeon Forge. I would stay their again...............

Sept-Oct is prime season in those parts, so expect to pay top dollar, and reservations are tough. Leaf season is short, but beautiful.

We stayed at Riverside a couple of years ago. Nice little campground, but it is more like "Creekside". You might want to stay away from the "river" sites.....just on the other side is the highway.

Just returned from a 7 day stay at "Smokemont" campground on the NC side of the Smoky's on Hwy 441. We stayed in "F" loop, restricted to RVs only, about 20 sites in this loop. No water or power, used generators. An acceptable campsite if used as a base camp. Senior rate $7 per night, $14 normal. Only 4 miles from Cherokee, 15 miles to Clingmans Dome, 30 miles to Galtinburg. Trout fished, hiked, check out the scenery of the Smokys, stop in Pigeon Forge to see hot rod show.

You have to decide a couple of options. Either public or private. If you go public which is Great Smoky Mountains National Park your options in NC are Balsam Mountian, Smokemont or Deep Creek...possible Cataloochee but there are limits to size there. In TN you have Cosby, Elkmont or Cades Cove. I have camped at all of them and I prefer a woodsy low key experience. We opened a second location of our chocolate business in the Forge and this month we have had two car shows which meant for me late nights. I live 1.5 hours from PF. So we towed the Roo to Townsend and stayed at the KOA there. Bathrooms were very clean and it was maybe 20 minutes to the Forge. I suggest the national park if you can. Good luck..fall in the Smokies is aweso.e!

We spent Thanksgiving last year at Twin Creek RV Resort.

These guys were walking around just after we started to cook the turkey.

joncraft;

In 2010, we stayed at Adventure Bound Campground that is located about 12 miles East of Gatlinburg, Tn.
It is a beautiful park nestled in the foothills of the Smokey's. Very pleasant stay, good accommodations and super friendly people.

Stayed at the Happy Holiday campground in Cherokee, NC, But my son and I tent camped at the time while on bikes and don't remember much of the park itself. Had a nice store, some great sites, a small lake, and a stream. We traveled all through the park, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge, so the proximity was close.

DW and I spent a weekend there in 2009, the first weekend we got our old TT. We liked it well enough, and the people that run the place are fantastic. I would not get one of the "river sites" as there is a road that runs between the back of your camper and the river. Our site had a steep 3 foot(ish) drop to the road at the back of our TT that went right to the road, I'll see if I can find some pics from that trip. If we were to stay there again we would just get one of the regular spots and be fine with it.
The one thing I didn't care for was the lack of shade and that they lock the gates at night so no in or out. The gate thing isn't really that big of deal since thats the way it is in most state parks we go to, and you can park your TV outside the gates if you were really worried about it.
