Campgrounds near Williamsburg VA

We are planning a trip next Labor Day to the Williamsburg Virginia area. Looking for recommendations for a campground. We like sites that have some trees and shade. Thanks in advance 😊

If you're Thousand Trails members, that park is a no brainer. Decent park and right price. We had decent tree coverage each time we've been there. Though I could have done without the squirrel throwing nuts at the camper and me this last time.

I'm thinking of using the Williamsburg KOA when I get around to doing that trip. Looks nice, but I have never been there.

You might want to check out this location.
FROG is holding a rally there in just a few weeks, so it’s probably a good bet you’d like this one. Just sayin’.

We also have done Thousand Trails. There was plenty of shade. Campground and people were there were nice. A tad tight maneuvering in there but no big deal. It is relatively close to all the attractions. We did have to evacuate our camper due to a tornado warning in April. Supposedly it touched down within a mile.

If you're military or retired there are four campgrounds in the area.

Anvil Campground, ... the closest cg to Colonial Williamsburg Visitors Center, ... plus you don't have to drive, they have a shuttle to get you there, ... the owner's family and the "anvil" has a connection to the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg, ... we certainly enjoyed our stay there, ... and they honor Passport America

X2; on this park I spent a 12 days there two years ago. Great RV park and plenty of things to do in the area. I had a nice long pull through, 50AMP site with water and sewer, for only $51 a night in 2017.

We have stayed at American Heritage many times over the last 12+ years of RVing.....the fact that we repeatedly go back says something.....

If you are active duty or retired military, then try Cheatham Naval Logistics Base. Just built a few years ago. Concrete pads, manicured lawns, nearby BX and just about 10 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg. One of best campsites in DoD.

Over half of American Heritage sites are very well shaded. The newer sites in the back are not shaded.

Just a quick warning on Anvil. There are train tracks adjacent to the campground which can be quite loud at night. Also had issues a few years back of constantly needing to reset the 30amp brkr on the pole (as did all of our neighbors). Dont have an EMS, but everyone had AC running due to it being July. Plugged into my 50 amp dogbone and all was well.
