Camping in/around Knoxville TN

Wifey and I are headed down there this summer. Our travels will take us from Nashville to Myrtle Beach SC and we're contemplating a stopover in Knoxville.
Can anyone recommend a good overnighter with hookups for a large fiver?
Thanks in advance.

There really isn't anything in Knoxville that is really convenient, most of the camping around here is based on the Smokeys. There is one spot right off the 407 exit that might fit the bill: Clicky

Feel free to PM me if you need any more info for around this area.

We located a KOA near Gatlinsburg TN. There's the Floyd Garrett muscle car museum nearby so that will eat up an afternoon. Any word on how that campground is?

If it is the one in Pigeon Forge I can't answer that, we tried to visit it once earlier this year but they were closed for the season. It is not what I would consider an easy on\off the interstate for an overnight as it is about 15 miles off the interstate and traffic can be bad between the exit and the CG. There are several parks closer to I40 (at exit 407) that I would look at for overnight.

Helmsey, Can you toss out a few CG names that you recommend? I've never camped in that neck of the woods.

Are you looking for something to come in later in the evening and leave in the AM or something to come in and check out the area some?
If you are just doing a quick overnight you could do something like this or this that are closer to the exit off the interstate and would avoid most of the major traffic.
If you wanted to come more towards Pigeon Forge area I would check out River Plantation. It is a little farther off the interstate, and could get you into more traffic, but if you are looking to check out the Pigeon Forge area it makes a good "home base"

We'll be staying for two nights. I wanna check out te Floyd Garrett muscle car museum in Gatlinsburg and maybe see the area for a day, that's about it. I don't treasure being tied up in traffic nor dodging lotsa tree limbs driving 15 miles into an unknown area just to camp.

For a couple nights in that area I would take a look at River Plantation pretty hard. When we head up that way it is where we go, pretty easy in and out and the traffic generally is not that bad getting there.
