Camping in Raleigh NC
I am having trouble finding a campground in Raleigh NC for one night. We prefer making reservations. The fair grounds will not let you make reservations and we prefer not taking a chance that they will have a spot. We will be coming from Gettysburg. Travel time is late August. And we are traveling with 3 dogs. Any suggestions welcome.

Jordan Lake is a nearby state campground, very large. Not sure if reservations taken. No sewer hookups.

Jordan lake state park takes reservations. About 70% of the sites are water and electric and in August, pretty much all of the 1000+ sites are open. It's about 30 minute drive to Raleigh. Be aware that the campground gates lock at 10pm (open at 8am) with no camper access unless emergency.

Highly recommend Jordan Lake camping...you won't find anything better in the Raleigh area.

Back in October 2016, I had to evacuate Myrtle beach because of hurricane Matthew. I ended up at Falls Lake State Rex area. Close to Raleigh and the State fair.
No sewer but a dump station. Same thing as windjammer said , gates closed at 10pm.

You might want to consider Jones Station RV Park. It is in Mebane about 30 miles short of Raleigh. It is a nice full service CG that takes reservations. It is about 10 minutes off I-40, in the country. Very quiet, no trains or traffic noise.

Rolling View CG on the Falls Lake is a nice park. Reservations thru ReserveAmerica. Electricity and water only. Convenient dump station. Had to stay there Feb 2019 for 2 weeks while home was undergoing some repairs. Rangers were very nice. They do not lock the park at night.

You may want to try Raleigh Oaks RV Resort. I haven’t stayed there but see good reviews on it.

Ok, local here, I drive over Jordan Lake everyday and camp there many times in the summer. The lake is way up due to the heavy rain and I am sure some sites are flooded so check with the park first.
The park is great but they are upgrading power and water (a good thing) but some loops are closed for renovations. Also, be aware the US 64 bridge over Jordan Lake will be under construction until September so it is a single lane each way, in rush hour it can back up if people don't get in the single lane early, we commuters do because we know this.
For convenience and shopping, Apex is 5-7 miles away from the lake, everything is there, the town is one of the fastest growing areas in the nation.
The NC State Fairgrounds has tons of spots and the place does not fill unless NC State Football is happening or it is the State Fair in October and then the close the campground and allow the Carnies to use it. If you want to stay in Raleigh, choose the fairgrounds but be aware, I-440 between Wade Ave and Walnut St in Cary is under construction.
