Thanks
As I pointed out before.... three days are not enough. Try to plan out what you 'really' want to do before you get that, and know a lot of great options will pop up when you get there. Have fun and be safe.

We like Charleston Better. And I would highly recommend James Island County Park, yes it is a county park but has full hookups and it is beautiful

Charleston SC or Savannah Ga

Charleston is great as all previously have said. Charleston AFB is military as mentioned. So as a retired military person great option for camping and layover at cheaper rates than other CGs. IF you decide to stay in Charleston and then head south to Jacksonville via route other than I-95 you can also check out Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay,Ga. There is a military campground there. It's not that far from getting back to I-95 in that area prior to Jacksonville. If you decide to get back on I-95 from Charleston check out Fort Stewart, GA. Not far from Savannah and only a short distance from I-95. Actual base entry is right off I-95 and not that close to the main base activity hub. Have a great trip whichever route you take.

If all works out the next stop after Charleston SC will be Mayport Navy base in Jacksonville Florida. That's set.

Now I do need an over night campground between Jacksonville FL and Gulf Shores Alabama.
Not many around I-10 corridor

See my map.

Iggy, you’re welcome. I drive from from east central coast of Florida to Pensacola often as my granddaughter went to college there and now works in Pensacola. I did not know that campground existed because it is not in my driving radius. I usually stop before Tallahassee. It is a small campground so you may want to reserve a spot. I found this park using Allstays Camp and RV.

If you ever find yourself in need of a campground near Pensacola there is one at exit 22 or 20 at Milton just east of the bridge over Escambia Bay. It is called Avalon Landing. Nice, clean easy park on the water. https://avalonlandingrvpark.com

We leave Thursday for Top Sail east of Destin and then on west to Tombstone AZ, then north all the way up to Glacier National Park hitting most of the National Parks in Utah 𝙋𝙡𝙪𝙨 Yellowstone then east back to Rushmore et al. Then back home via Branson... maybe we will pass on the road.

We planned the entire trip using RV Trip Wizard. Route and campgrounds..

Have a safe trip..

dalford thanks for all the tips.

We also have a trip planned for Zion NP next month.
We setting up basecamp (7day) in Zion River Resort in Virgin Utah.
May 8 - 14. Then we will head to Lake Powell east 150 miles

I can suggest and help with Yellowstone NP as well as Glacier NP, Rushmore and Branson Mo. if you have any questions.

If this Utah and Zion is your plan maybe we can meet for a drink or something. You now know where I will camped.

You can visit the USS Yorktown,USS Laffey DD-724 and the USS Clamagore SS-343 plus other exhibits at Patriots Point. There is also Fort Sumter to visit plus the old slave market down town. With a carriage ride of the old town of Charleston the history of the town is explained along with what transpires at Battery park at the start of the civil war.

Cuisine is excellent in both cities but with the old southern charm is more apparent in Charleston SC.

We stay at St James Island campground and drove into the city daily. One of the finest county parks I have every stayed in. We had full hook-ups, 50amps and a very long pull thru site.

I echo Jim. Charleston would be the one I would choose. The houses on the battery will impress any DW and sites mentioned are nice as well. DO not pass on the city Carriage ride. Money well spent. We have been to both and either would be fun, but Charleston is our pick. Ditto on the campground at the Park. I think Charleston AFB may have a small campground for eligible people.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either but if we were going again we’d go to Charleston.

Charleston SC or Savanna GA? (3 Nights)

Charleston, James Island. Headed there Sunday. We haven’t camped in Savannah, but we’ve been there a couple of times. We just prefer Charleston now.

Charleston!

We just spent 5 wonderful nights in Charleston.

1. It's a foodie town and we really enjoyed eating there. Lots of wonderful choices!

2. Very easy to get around. Lots of history to explore.

3. Highly recommend the James County Park campground! Really nice facility and easy access to town.

I agree with Jim34. There is something to see in both cities, but more in Charleston. We stayed at Mt. Pleasant KOA for a week and found plenary to do in the area.

Charleston!

We spent a week plus in the Charleston area last summer. Buck Hall Recreation Area near McClellanville is a really nice small campground on the intercoastal. Quiet. About 45 minutes from the Charleston area.

If you stay there I highly recommend TW Graham restaurant in McClellanville. And check out Awendaw Green for fantastic live music.

Enjoy!
