CT to FL in January

Heading to Fl from Ct in January using I84 to I81. Hearing different reports concerning the road condition through Pa, some say its OK others say its horrible (potholes, etc.). The full route, as it stands now is: I84, I81, I77, I26, I95, I295, I10, 301, I75 ending up in Ruskin Fl.

2016 3010DS pulling an Acme Tow Dolly with a 2009 Nissan Versa.

Has anyone recently traversed this route and can comment on the condition of the road?
An alternative might be I84, I87, I287, I80, I78 to I81 in Harrisburg.

Safe Travels.

Hello Larry,
I prefer your second route. I live in Naugatuck. I usually go 8 to 95 then take exit 21 in NY which is first exit and go to 287 over Tappan Zee Bridge then follow to I78 to 81. I also tow a car. I am not a fan of 84 to 81 too hilly. I have done the rest via 81 and like that route.

Hey, thanks for the reply! Was being to wonder “if this thing is on”, lol.

Because we want to get as far south as possible the first day to un-winterize and the day is scheduled for 400 miles, we are figuring an early departure (5 am!). That would put us very near the 95/287 during am rush hour (leaving on a Friday) which is something I’d rather avoid. Pretty sure I can get through Danbury in that amount of time and it should be OK from there. Not really concerned with the hills on 84/81 but I am thinking about the potholes that used to run from Scranton to Wilkes-Barre. Hope they’ve been at least filled!

I hear you on the rush hour. Lots of construction along 81 in that area. Hopefully 84 to 81 is not as bad as it has been.
