Daytona Bike Week campground suggestions?
A friend and I are thinking of attending Daytona Bike Week for 2015 again. We did it in 2006, we hauled the bikes down from PA on car trailers and rented a house for the week (big $) but now we both have toy haulers. So the idea is to get two sites at a CG near Daytona, preferably a little north on Rt 1. Not interested in being at the Cabbage Patch or anything else right in the middle of the craziness. Something a bit outside town, but with all the RV-ers needs in mind. Anyone have any suggestions? TIA.

There is a nice KOA in S Daytona on Nova Road that would be just what you are looking for. Away from the craziness and still a short ride to Main St. I stayed at that one for Bike Week a couple of times and had no problems.

Just be aware that the one on 92 and I95 doubles the rates during any event around the race track. We've stayed there numerous times prior to last Nov and paid $30 -$36/night. Last Nov, being a dumb a--, I just ask for 2 nights and gave her my credit card. They charged $136 for 2 nights. Ask why and was told some car or bike show going on at the track or something. Will not stay there again besides having a pull thru site that was blocked by very low trees & campers in front and a camper pulling in and blocking behind. Had to wait until the folks left so we could back out. Sure glad we're retired and was in no hurry leaving. Finally got on the road around noon instead of 9 when we normally leave.

Is Coral Sands the one that jacks the rates? Looks like it on their site, the rates for Bike Week and Race Week are almost double. I know it's good business, but I don't have to like it...

Anyone ever stay at Thunder Gulch in Bunnell? Looks biker-friendly...?

We live in the Daytona area - agree the Port Orange/ South Daytona campgrounds should be good, away from the craziness but close enough to the action.
Since we're local, we haven't stayed at any of these, but the KOA on Nova seems nice. There are also options in Port Orange: Daytona Carefree 4601 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange, Florida 32129 (386) 761-2663 and Nova Family Campground 1190 Herbert Street, Port Orange, FL 32129 (386) 767-0095
Our local go to campground is Tomoka State Park, which is in Ormond somewhat near the Destination Daytona activities. They book fast for events, but worth a shot to check out.

A year to late but my favorite place to camp is, inside the Daytona Speedway.
The high bank track deflects the noise of the traffic that goes on 24 hours a day, making it very quiet at night. Wake up in the AM to the sound of Race Bikes on the track.
Go to the Daytona Speedway website for the many options for camping.
My last trip was on the pavement by Lake Lloyd. You get Water, Electric, and a feed for your TV with all the race action. Just outside the fence by that area are cheaper sites with electric, not sure about water. No sewer hookups but honey wagon comes around for a fee. Other options also some with no hookups.
Have fun, stay safe.

I've stayed at the Nova Road KOA, it was fine - pretty close. If you don't mind a further ride, try the St Augustine KOA. Far from the craziness, close to the beach. Also look up Tomoka State Park.

We dry camp at the holiday travel park off old Dixie. It's one exit up from destination Daytona.

Sugar mills I stayed about 20 years ago down by pub 44 don't no anything about the place now. They did have a rule on bikes if you didn't be back at site by say 10 pm you leave it at office. The place by cabbage patch did a lot of improvements I'm going to take a ride over just to check it out. I stay at a friends house now.

Hey MeLe!
Is the Holiday park the place that charges by the foot? $1.50 per foot is what I was quoted at one spot.
Thanks
