I don't like Henderson Beach because it is just yards from busy Rt 98. Most everyone is sealed into their coach with the AC running, and don't mind the noise. I have a hybrid and the noise does not go away when you close the door.
Grayton is much more like camping, with road noise still around, but much further away.
Good luck getting a site at either as they are both very popular.
Good luck with Grayton. With full hookups in the new campground and the old campground under construction, we missed out this year with our 08:00, 11 month out reservations. We had been there for the last 4 seasons. Around 1/4 mile as the crow fly’s to the beach. Maybe 1/2 mile by road to the beach parking lot.
Thanks for the input. I was leaning towards Grayton for the reasons rsdsta mentioned. Plus the surrounding villages look much more interesting to us than busy Destin.
when in that area, look up one or all of the three (I believe) locations of the Donut Hole restaurant. Excellent breakfast and lunch plus take home donuts! BUT almost always crowded, at least when I go there in Jan, Feb and March.
Also look into Rocky Bayou SP and even Blackwater River SP north of Destin. Both are nice and have water sports in the park. And look into camping at Fort Pickens near Pensacola Beach. I like Loop A there. Your campsite at Pickens is within a short walk to the beach.
It’s a secret so don’t share. [emoji2] But you might want to consider Fort Pickens Campground at Gulf Islands National Seashore. You can walk to GREAT beaches and no traffic noise. Cool historic fort to tour and if your lucky you might get to see a Blue Angels practice. Usually easier to get a site, but reservations are needed. Again don’t tell anyone.
