Fort Pickens

We are considering a week at Fort Pickens in the Gulf National Seashore in early May. Anyone have any thoughts on it? We don't need much, just water and electric. A bit of shade would be nice.

Stayed there at thanksgiving, nice white sand, beautiful blue water, great for relaxing. A loop is nicer if you can get it. Water , power and a good chance of getting partial shade. The campground is nearly 20 min drive from the publix supermarket so best to get some supplies on the way.

Stayed there several times. Love it. You do not mention how big your rig is. Loop A is the nicest but read the site warnings that are listed for each site. I've stayed in a 30' TT and a 37' 5th wheel. Pick site accordingly

Check out the Blue Angels while there. You can watch them from Ft. Pickens but I would recommend driving to Pensacola Naval Air Base and watch the practice up close. You can rent a folding chair for a buck and watch them right at the runway. While the check out the Naval Aviation Museum...it's all free and a great day trip.

If you like seafood stop by Joe Pattie's in downtown Pensacola. Great fresh seafood. Joe Patti's World Famous Seafood Market. Florida Seafood, Pensacola Seafood, online Seafood Market, shop

I've actually toured the western half of this string of islands via sailboat from Louisiana. Interested in trying the campgrounds now.

We booked E47 in May. I chose it as it appears to have some shade. I will let you know how it goes!

I used Google Satellite view as best as I could to get a spot that had shade. I wanted in the other loop but it was already booked for the week. I am sure no matter what we will all have a great time there. I was contemplating leaving the Harley home for this trip since we will have all the kids with us but that coastline view is pushing me to take it.

How was your stay there? Is there a laundry mat still there? I heard that new bathhouses opened up or was it just one?

The stay was good, although the interior camp sites are tight. Get one on the outer sections if possible. Nice bathhouse. Camp store is closed and I think that is where laundry was.

We are on a outer site. Satellite looked like we had plenty of room.
