Front Royal Va campgrounds

Has anyone camped at any campgrounds around the Front Royal VA area? Looked at some web sites but sometimes what you see is not what you get.

I have looked into Shenandoah River Raymond "Andy" Guest State Park. It is actually several miles south of Front Royal near Bentonville. Looks interesting, and hope to try it out sometime in the near future.

Gooney Creek is also south of Front Royal on Rt. 340. I have seen it from the road, but have never driven into the campground. Looks rustic.

Mathews Arm on the Skyland Drive is about 15 miles from Front Royal. Again, I have never stayed there, but have stayed at the other 3 campgrounds on the Drive, and always enjoy the stays. No water or electric, though.

We were just at the Jellystone campground at Luray Va this past weekend. It is about 25 miles south of Front Royal on Route 211. It is less than 5 miles from Luray Caverns. Of course, it is for kids and there are lots of them, but nice place. It was also pretty full.

Would go there again, the campground staff was most helpful with my TV issue (hit a deer - but that is another thread).

Have not camped at any of the others that were posted here.

We camped last summer at a new cg called outlanders. It's about 5 miles jelly stone. As its new there were no shaded sites and minimal amenities.......but it's on the shenedohah river so I was able to walk down and fish everyday!

Not good cg if you have kids unless they love fishing all day lol!

We were just at Shenandoah River SP for July 4, Wednesday - Sunday. This is one of our favorite State Parks. There is not a bad site in the park. The onlky draw back is when they built the loop they leveled just about all trees so it lacks even partial shade. Usually thiss is our New Years gathering park. Nice place.

We were also here at Shenandoah River State Park on the 4th. Went into Front Royal on the third for the fireworks display at the 4H facility. Really beautiful setting. We are now hosting at Shenandoah River state park until the end of August. Not a bad site in the campground.
