I've heard periwinkle park is the only cg on sanibel and its supposed to be great. Also we go further north to Turtle Beach near Nokomis. It's on the beach. Very basic but on the beach.

X2 on periwinkle. But it is the only one in that area I have stayed in. We were there in Mar 13. Your DW sounds like mine "Wife wants beach for shells and relaxing." You can drive to public beaches, but from the campground it is about 1/2-3/4 mile walk/bike ride to the beach. You have got to catch the bird show if you go to periwinkle.

Periwinkle park again. On Sanibel Island.
We stayed there in Feb.
Bring your bikes, it's an easy bike ride to the beach and Sanibel Island is bicycle
friendly. They have paved bike paths next to nearly all major roads.

Pine Island is not "beachy". If you stay on Pine Island you have to drive off
the island to find a beach.

One caveat: there is a toll to cross the bridge to get onto the island.
We stayed mostly on the island so it wasn't a problem.
If you wanted to go off island every day for a week..... I think it's $3 per axle.
No toll to leave, just getting on.
This helps cut down on tourist traffic.

We rode our bikes everywhere! I didn't start my truck for several days.

Also recommend the bird show at Periwinkle!

Also highly recommend a visit to the J.N. "ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge also on Sanibel Is.

Staying at Turtle beach campground right now. Not too bad, a little overcrowded due to the memorial day weekend crowd. Its a basic campground but you can walk to the ocean within a minute.
We were avid returnees, but ever since the county took over the campground, its just not the same. We will be back in July because we have paid reservations, hopefully I will have a better feeling of the place once again. Again its not a bad place to stay, but I have had better times here.

We stayed at the KOA on Pine Island a couple of years ago and would not recommend it. The sites are back-in with very narrow streets and little room to maneuver. Nothing much on the island, no public beach, a few small restaurants. Sanibel would be a much better choice.

Cruz we saw your camper today!!! We were visiting the park to check out our site for an upcoming trip :-). I was surprised at how much beach erosion there was. Still looking forward to our trip. Traffic was insane today.

Are you planning to come to the Rally in Oct?
