Fuel at a turnpike Service Plaza question

I’m driving along I-80/I-90 west turnpike in Ohio and looking to stop at the Erie Island Service Plaza. This sounds like a dumb question but I can’t fill up my f150 with gas in the truck lanes correct? Their pumps are diesel only. Even though the signs say to stay right that is for parking. To get gas I need to follow the car lane.

All the ones I have been to are not for gas trucks.

Thanks. That is what I thought too. Kinda dumb if I need to get gas I can’t park.

Looking at the sat photos, you pull in through the car lines, get your gas then circle to the left and get a parking spot in the truck lot. It looks very doable.

Yeah I thought about that too. Another option is to get gas at one service center then drive to the next one to take a break.

I drive that all the time, we stop park & go get food in the car section, then fill up and hit the road from that area, I have never had anyone tell me I had to go in the back with the trucks. I have a diesel & don't go back there if I dont have to. The pumps are filty, oil all over, and most dont take credit cards at the pump so I go on the car side.

Some of the service areas in Ohio have electric hookups for RVS. They are in the complete back. Dump station also. Never used them myself yet.

Every other rest stop has the RV sites. Have stayed there several times as well. Just electric hook up but do have fresh water & dump station. So easy for on and off, plus bathrooms, restaurants & of course gas and Diesel.

RV Lanes

Some places like the Flying J in Great Falls have RV Lanes. You can get gasoline or diesel and often propane. They have places big enough to drive through and carry on or park.

X2

This is the way the service plazas are on the PA turnpike.

Follow the car signs, (for gas) fuel up, then pull around to the parking areas on the far side of the plaza. Plenty of room to park for cars/trucks/R/Vs.

CAUTION! If you do need diesel in your tow vehicle, don't go to the TRUCK LANES! The nozzle is designed for the Semi size tanks, larger opening, extra large tank fill. It will barely fit into the regular pickup tank fill tube. It will fit, but you won't get a full tank because of the larger fill rate it will keep cutting off too early. Almost ran out of fuel because I didn't pay attention to that.

A lot of us use the semi lanes with our diesel pickups. Now that you know about the differences you also know you can't fill it like you do with a normal auto pump. Make those adjustments (fill slowly and pay attention) and you will be fine, just like the rest of us.

Not sure about your truck but I've had F250s and F350s plus aux tanks for many years and always use the truck lanes! Never a problem.

FWIW, on my last trip down the turnpike in Ohio, I noticed that at least SOME of the plazas have gas available in the semi lanes. It was clearly posted on the entry side of the pumps. However, I didn't use any of them, so I don't know if they have the higher volume flow for gas.

X2. My F250 fill neck will accept the large nozzle as will my aux tank fill. But as stated you must pay attention or it will splash back due to the higher flow. Listen closely and have an idea how much fuel you need and adjust flow accordingly. Never had a problem.
