We recently spent three nights at George L. Smith State Park in Twin City, GA, a little south of Macon and about an hour north of Savannah. Wow, what a great park! The lake is amazing, surrounded by cypress knees. We had a site directly on the lake so we could launch our kayaks from our site. Campground host was nearby for questions. There are hiking & bicycling trails in the park too. Wish we had brought our bicycles, but we had a wonderful time kayaking. There are also 2 fishing piers. The restroom facilities were very clean. However, the showers, at best, were lukewarm, and not for long either, which was disappointing. Our site, #23, was spacious enough, there was a field on one side and the five sites next to us were empty. A mix of shade & sun, all shade on the picnic table. We really enjoyed this park, kayaking was just the best. We only saw turtles & osprey while out paddling, although we were on the look out for alligators & snakes, never saw them!
We will definitely be returning to this state park!
