Don't know how far you want to go in GA but two great campgrounds are Mistletoe SP in Appling, GA., was there on Aug. 16th. Clean, modern facilities, nice sites on the lake with easy access. The other one is Hart SP on Lake Hartwell on the GA side of the lake. Clean facilities, lots of sites around the lake, sites are a bit small. We went here to view the eclipse last year. We would go back to either of these campgrounds when in the area again.

How far are you going, what amenities are you looking for, State Park/private, etc.

I can gladly give you a list, but would like to target it for you.

Also, campgroundreviews.com is a great resource for visiting new places.

North Georgia Campground that is a do not miss

Mountain View Campground in Hiawassee GA is a great little campground. Nice size spots. Quiet. Centrally located to may parks and tourist destinations. Amazing WiFi. Great owners who make you feel like family. This is a place more for the older campers as there is not a playground or pool. They do have a Music Venue that features local talent as well as being a movie night. The owners also like to have Pot Lucks where everybody brings a dish as well as hosting breakfast on select weekends. I stayed there 6 months and absolutely loved it! it is on my must return list.

Skidaway Island is very nice. Crooked River State Park (near St Marys) is also nice, if looking for alternatives. Skidaway is a little better, though and much more to do in the area. No-see-ums and mosquitoes should be way down.

If going to Skidaway, and you go to Savannah, stop at the Visitors' Center. This is where you can get the walking tour map, or pick up the trollies and ghost tours. Just park there. The walking tour is nice, if you can do it. You get to see all of the squares up close. If you like history, take one of the ghost tours. No ghosts, but a good tour and amazing history talk in one. One of the companies even gives the tour in a hearse!

Many nice trails and assortment of wildlife in either park.

If into Geocaching, there are many in Savannah.

Awesome info! I have been to Savannah for my son's soccer tournaments, but looking forward to exploring. Ghost tours are fun! We live in St Augustine, FL about 7 minutes from the historic area, so we are very familiar with them. [emoji4]

We stayed at Bald Ridge Campground, a COE park in Cumming, GA.

Bonus is that we got to go in and meet some of the staff at TST.

We live in Melbourne FL. We take the kids to Unicoi State Park in Helen, GA for spring break and every year we also go to Stone Mountain for Thanksgiving. Unicoi is our favorite campground of all time. Even for our 11 year old twins. Good luck.

We have camped at Skidaway Island and Laura Walker State Park in South Georgia. You probably can’t go wrong with any of Georgia’s state parks. Laura Walker is on a lake and there are many pines for shade. The sites are roomy. It is about an hour west of St. Simon’s Island, which is not too bad a run for you. We like to ride our bikes in Savannah and at Skidaway.

If you ever need a place to stay for the night on your way up I-75, Twin Oaks campground was nice. Pull through spots where you don’t have to unhook. It’s somewhere around Perry, I think.

Good camping spots in GA?

We really enjoyed the state park in Helen. There is a lot to do in the area. When we camped there we had four adults in a Rockwood 1610 popup.
