When we went up (from Uncasville when we lived there) we took 395/290/495/93 and got off for Rt3/11. We stayed at Paugus Bay Campground.. and Proctors Lake House Cottages for a few years.

I was also thinking 91 north because of the tolls. My ez pass is for a car. Are the roads from 91- the lake rv passable? This is our first highway trip with a new 40ft fifth wheel. Want the easiest way not necessarily the fastest. :-)

Can"t really say about the roads maybe someone on this forum can answer that. As for the EZ Pass in Mass. I just went online and added my trailer to the list of vehicles and the toll booths read how many axles you have when you pass and charge accordingly. Now I've only used it on the Mass Pike so don't know about other states.
I can't comment on taking 91 and some other roads. The only time I've done that was to camp in Littleton KOA for a few days (went zip lining at Bretton Woods) and then we went down 93 through Franconia Notch to Winnipesaukee/Paugus Bay. If you have a few days to just drive and hit another campground, then i'd say "do it"...
As far as EZPass is concerned, i've driven our old 21" from Maine to Virginia hitting all kinds of tolls and never had an issue. Didn't have to register the camper as it auto"magically" figures out the axles (i've seen it on my BILL!!)

Same here...I just got EZPass before we made a trip to NH (3 weeks ago) and then to Maine the very next w/e. Just called yesterday to put more $ on it and my balance was .48!! They started me out with $30 on it. I never realized how much you spend through those things. Heck, Maine just went to $3 for cars only! Next week headed down to Fla.....tolls shouldn't be bad, as we are avoiding 95.
