I-86 & I-88 through New York?

Are these good roads heading west or should we take I-90 west? We are pulling a 36' fiver.

I would take I-90. I-88 Between Albany and Oneonta is known for high winds.

I traveled on I-86 last year going east and found that road to be great; not a lot of traffic on it. I also traveled I-90 going west be prepared for a lot of tolls on the road. I pulled a 5er both ways a Cougar 318SAB.

I88 and I86 are both good roads 88 is no windier than any other road, both are normally light on traffic.

I88 and I86 are both fine. I90 is going to be heavy on the tolls, but with a big 5W, I90 has the big gas stops right on the roadway. With 88 and 86 you have to get off.

I prefer to pay the tolls and take the 90. On my last trip with the 5ver the tolls were triple. Toll booth operator explained that I had dual axle on the RV so 3x regular pay. Buffalo to Watkins Glen = $15 toll.

I have traveled from one end of I88 to the other and it is a great road. I live in Chenango County NY so it is a road I use many times from Albany to Binghamton. When are you coming through?? Regards; Frank

Hi Charlie: Glad to hear you will be coming near by. We will be camping from the 24th through the 28th near Bainbridge just off I-88. We will be camping on property owned by one of the other Hams. That weekend is called Field Day for the Amateur radio (Hams) operators. If you need any assistance in the area don't be afraid to give a call. Regards; Frank

You will be very close to Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame. Home | Baseball Hall of Fame

You will also be passing by Howe Cavern just off I88. Howe Caverns

88 and 86 is a great route to use to avoid I90 (NYS Thruway) tolls. Should you chose to use 90 make sure you re-mortgage the house and have the cash on hand. 86 has TA Centers for gas and supplies that isn't much different that pull off to a rest stop on 90.
