I-95 SC Detour

Coming from Williamsburg, VA to FL. Has anyone taken the suggested detour on the SCDOT website of I-20 (Florence)>I-77 ( Columbia)> I-26 > I-95? If so, how did it go? Thankfully, not towing the camper this trip, car only.

I haven't since the flood, but have done I 26 to I 77 north in the past and the road is great. I am heading that way next Monday from Florida and would like to hear how it was getting around Columbia I-77 to I-26 from you as I hear on the TV that the loop around Columbia on the east side may have some issues. Wouldn't think so since they are directing traffic that way, but...

We were coming this way towards Disney in 2 weeks (95) . Guess I should keep an eye on all this in case it is still closed.

I talked to my daughter yester and she said they got 18 to 24 inches of rain, depending on the area. Lot of road closures and bridges out, and a couple of dams breached.

I would call their highway commission before planning any trip thru SC right now. They are still under a declared state of emergency.

If you can get on route 17, it parallels I-95

Leaving Dunn, NC Thursday for Savanah on I-95. Have made this trip many times in past but not with road and bridge closures. Anyone going that way who can post conditions and road detours, please do. Don't want to cancel the trip, but don't want to go 600 miles out of the way.

I-96 exit 73 south to Ga. exit 10 in Pooler Ga.

This site shows real time traffic signs, delays and a number of web cams along that detour. Looks pretty good outside of a couple of accidents right now.

The prompts on South Carolina 511 look much more encouraging this evening around Columbia, I 77 and I 26, thank goodness for all.

Just got home to FL from VA. The SC I-95 detour took us 61 additional miles. Roads were good, except for a couple of miles on I-26...potholes, etc. Very heavy traffic on I-26, guess because it's I-95 and I-26 traffic on it now. They don't have any detour signs except on I-95 unto I-20, so watch for the I-77 and I-26 exits. Very, very surprised that they did not have more signage.

Well we made it thru the detour ok. As someone mentioned going south on 95 it was well marked with signs and cones, but didn't see any signage for the detour to take 77 to 26. Lots of traffic and a few wrecks on 26 made for a long crawl to 95. Stopped for the night in SC and should be home late tomorrow

I went to Savannah from Dunn, NC Thursday. Normal 4.5 hour trip. Was rerouted to I-20 at Florence, went I-20 west to Columbia, 231 south to Hardeyville, back on I-95 to Savannah. 9.5 hours. Came home today, I-95 to 21 t0 76, to 401 to 20 to I20, to I-95. Took 6.5 hours. 601 south of I-20 has detours also. Not all detours marked. Not fun either way.

No problem with your 35 foot fifth wheel. I'm driving a 37 ft motorhome and towing a car. The detour I took was all interstate. I-20 west to I-77 south to I-26 east back to 95. I read somewhere that it only added 50 or 60 miles to the trip

If google traffic is right, the detour looks like it might be gone and 95 is opened back up now?

I have read a couple of places that it is open in both directions.
